News Alert: Canadian PM Mark Carney announces election as he seeks mandate to tackle Trump
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a federal election in a widely anticipated move where he met with Governor-General Mary Simon on Sunday to request for Parliament to be dissolved.
“I’m asking Canadians for a strong, positive mandate to deal with President Trump and to build a new Canadian economy that works for everyone because I know we need change, big change, positive change,” Carney said on Sunday of the ongoing trade war with the United States.
The election will be held on April 28 and will see Carney face off against his main rival, the Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre.

Voters living in Saanich have to figure out which of the three districts they belong to.
Most of Saanich West (rural) is in Esquimalt/Saanich/Sooke.
Most of the east side of Saanich, east of the highway is Saanich and the Islands.
10-Mile Point is part of Victoria, as is bits of Saanich east of Shelbourne and south of McKenzie.
I think… I’m in Esq-Saanich-Sooke (Royal Oak).

Arya was pushed out of his long-held riding of Nepean, so Carney can run in his place.

Does anyone have insight into what’s going on with the Conservatives in Victoria? Are they not planning to run a candidate at all this time?
Members of Tory riding associations in the capital region received emails on Sunday afternoon informing them of the party’s choice in the two Island ridings where they had yet to field a candidate.
Grant Cool was named the party’s candidate in Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke.
Cool, an Uplands resident, previously worked with Lockheed Martin on hybrid airships and is the founder of several companies working in the marine and aerospace sectors, based in Victoria and Santa Clara, California.
Angus Ross, who previously sought a Conservative nomination in Saanich-Gulf Islands against Conservative candidate Cathie Ounsted, is running for the Conservatives in Victoria.
Ross is a former councillor in Scugog, Ont. and a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces.

A member of Ucluelet First Nation, she serves on her nation’s legislative council and was recently vice-president of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council.‘
Sounds like a decent candidate for the Liberals which ironically should help the Conservative in that riding with the vote split.

Anyway, there was a tally for Poilievre yesterday.
Ontario is the secret to the Cons’ success. If they can’t make inroads there, it’s over, it sounds like.

Gregor running in Vancouver is just brutal. Will Christy Clark run in Surrey? Apparently her negatives are very strong from internal polling.

Do you have a reference for the results of the internal polling?
