The cons would need to win about half the seats in Ontario to make the election close. They never came anywhere close to that during the Trudeau years. Last time they did it was against Ignatieff (who isn’t dissimilar to Carney in terms of profile, if not policy)

We deserve the government we elect, right?

The wealthy don’t really care either way. It’s the people down on the ground feeling the daily realities of policies and in the middle paying for the missteps who will have to deal with the repercussions of another term by the current establishment.

With crime going the way it has gone, I can’t even begin to imagine what our city centres will look like if the current status quo continues.

The question I would put to people living in urban centres today, is how do you plan to enjoy the current -good- days of your already downtrodden urban centres? In four years when we’re back to the polls, we may be wishing our cities are then, what they are now.

Who are the wealthy? Such a small group that their votes have very limited effect even if the all vote for one party.

Sample Vancouver crime stats.

Some of “the wealthy” are government officials and higher level managers. Or politicians. They took no cuts during Covid. For example.

Some of the other wealthy are big business owners.

And the wealthy are the people who are unaffected by the changing winds in Ottawa, although we do fool ourselves into thinking that only one party or brand benefits the wealthy. They all do.

Carney has dropped out of a French language debate, leading to its cancellation.

The $75,000 fee is interesting.

However, TVA announced a few days ago that it was asking the four main political parties to contribute $75,000 each to participate, due to a lack of funding. Now, the absence of a single party means the debate won’t go ahead.

The Bloc Québécois quickly signed the contract and expressed willingness to participate, even though it raised ethical questions. All political parties were reluctant to pay to debate. Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party, however, announced its participation.

He even challenged Carney to do the same.

“Why not? Yes, yes,” Carney told reporters on Monday. He emphasized that he wanted to participate in the debates with all political parties, including the Green Party. TVA, however, only invited the Liberals, Conservatives, the Bloc Québécois, and the NDP.

A few hours later, his team announced that he would not debate on TVA. No Liberal party means there won’t be a debate.

When did this software upgrade happen? These books were deemed offensive and progressives were removing them from libraries, not that long ago.

Now Seuss books help us rise above discrimination.

Come and hear prominent community members share their love of reading with their favourite Dr. Seuss stories.

Take home a free Dr. Seuss book and enjoy snacks, refreshments, and door prizes.

Why is literacy important? Literacy is the foundation upon which we learn and grow, opening doors to understanding, empathy, and critical thinking. A literate community tends to be healthier, more productive, and more socially engaged, able to advocate for themselves and their communities, participate in society, and rise above discrimination.

Under the Liberals, land and housing values have catapulted so high that it would most definitely be of benefit to individuals now aged 60 and more to see the current political layers over housing maintained. Anyone who has held real-estate for the last decade has made out handsomely, and that’s on top of massive appreciation since the late 90s when a lot of people now aged 60+ would have been getting into the market.

There is no denying that political policies like urban containment boundaries, low federal investment desire into new roads for new suburbs, and immigration policies driving up demand, have finally come home to roost, turning $450,000 home purchases in the nicest neighbourhoods into $1.5 million to $2 million properties over the span of 25 years.

And then there is healthcare. That cohort can largely afford to pay more for healthcare, but they vote not to. They also fear that a Conservative government will change healthcare taxes to more evenly distribute the healthcare costs among those who can pay. The retort in the media is Conservatives will deliver ‘American-style’ healthcare to Canada. What I suspect that really means is they’ll start the conversation on healthcare costs being tied to income and wealth.

Do you know anyone that wants the value of THEIR house to drop?

It's not just 60+ year olds.  35% of Canadians aged 25-29 already own their home.

I would like the land development strangleholds on our cities to be lifted, so that 25-29 year olds are not having to pay $500,000 for a small condominium.

I would also like for our governments to properly fund road infrastructure and quit trying to push people who live 20-30-40-50-60km from their places of employment onto buses and bikes, making commutes overly long and complex. Is there any wonder nobody’s at the office, today?

The baby boomer generation grew up with new roads, new schools, new infrastructure and facilities for the suburban communities their parents could afford to buy into. That made the suburbs great places to live, and affordable places to live with infrastructure that compensated for the distances involved. That same level of support is now politically held back by the people who once benefited from it.

Another Canadian furniture maker will be moving its operations to the US, this time a Delta-based company that is moving operations entirely to North Carolina, costing 170 jobs.

This follows Quebec’s South Shore furniture maker that moved south in February, taking 115 jobs with it.

Of course, they also follow Liberal leader Mark Carney’s company’s move to the US from Ontario. :)
