Long story short: the city park is in the wrong place and should be relocated somewhere out of town. Maybe there's an unused campsite somewhere that could be acquired by the CoV and converted into a city park.

That is a really good idea.  While we’re at it we could relocate the business district to a more secure location.  Then they would be unaffected by all the trouble downtown.

What specifically are the "services"?

I imagine lots of it is security. bathroom rentals.

I noticed when Laurel Collins put out her "I'm pregnant" pic she did it in one of the few areas of Beacon Hill with no tent in the background. You would have thought she would have included some in her happy announcement.

She's also the NDP's climate critic. Wonder how she feels about forest fires in parks.

Not at all.  We could start by logging out the trees that present a hazard to campers.  Then pour a hundred or so raised concrete pads for tents.  Installation of some sewage, water and electrical services would be no problem.  I was going to suggest adding a small commissary and grocery store but the BCSC might find that to be a violation of the Trust.

Should be quick. Doesn't seem like permitting process is necessary these days. Can just change the laws and bylaws so they're no longer required like how the 7-7 camping by-law was changed.

Reason: it’s a park for low income people. I guess the « rich » people of Beacon Hill Park don’t deserve a park.

You’re looking at it the wrong way.  The campers don’t deserve to have to make their livings in less affluent backyards.

Lucky nobody was hurt this time. If the country had adequate supports everywhere and people stopped migrating to the city of Victoria for weather and services all the homeless living here would already be indoors instead of encampments.

She’s probably concerned fires would endanger campers and their small business structure.

I've always said that. Downtown Victoria is in the wrong place. Ideally the downtown area would be a long way from the downtown area.

...like how the 7-7 camping by-law was changed.

Was this bylaw actually changed or is it just not being enforced?

Sounds like there are at least two groups in BHP, one being a group of homeless and another being anti Colonial protesters that are aligned with the Red Cedar Cafe.

The Activists at the current tent are the same Activists who ran the previous donation tent impounded in November

The same Activists are the one who applied for and will be running the tent which Red Cedar Cafe is currently finishing the permit process for the $6,500 grant money

With « banning green space in poor neighborhood@ I was actually repeating the NPNA rationale for banning camping in Central Park.

...The homeless now have a community care tent at RAP parking lot...

All with zero neighbourhood consultation. Well done CoV.

I think the latter group should start impeachment processes against James Douglas.

Sounds like Charles Bodi, “Community Inclusion Manager” (who knew) has a more sophisticated understanding of community inclusion than the rest of us.

Soulliere said that prior to the flood, the city was spending $22,000 a month to maintain four portable toilets, a hand-washing station, along with daily waste-collection sites, security and hazard inspections in the park.

Might as well take my tax dollars and use them to start fires at BHP.

...prior to the flood...

The CoV has been pushing this agenda for ages.

anyway as the mayor says on cfax this morning we are only 68 days away from all homeless being housed.

so it'll all be over then.

the moderators will be able to shut down this thread because there will be no more homeless.

Perhaps the Biblical flood was being referenced.
