A refresher:

I don't think either of them are a good example of how to do a mechanical penthouse. They're both really bad.

The Y-lot buildings are pleasant enough. They actually look better on gloomy days than they do when it's really sunny.

Is it too early to call the Belvedere my favourite residential highrise in Victoria?

I don't think so!

Of recent construction I guess though at any height I still like the Corazon a bit more.

It has a whole new look!

I think the Bel is only slightly ahead of the Corazon in my opinion. I like the landscaping / ground level of the Belvedere better. And, well, the overall look of the building actually.

When Astoria was going up, I would go to the top of Chateau Victoria (On the Restaurant floor) and watch the construction (much to the dismay of the waitresses and waiters, as I never ordered anything). Before I knew it, the building had soared right above the tip-top of Chateau Victoria.

However, I thought construction had been halted! As it was gray, ugly, and I was sure there was stuff that needed doing. Before I knew it I saw people and things on the balconies, and my fears were realised - the building was just ugly!

I don't like it too much, but it is pretty dang tall!

Yeah the Astoria is ok but it certainly leaves a lot to be desired. The Belvedere is certainly a nicer design and more interesting coulour palette.

Astoria needs colour or even just some contrast here and there. Eventually it will be painted again and hopefully they'll choose a darker shade for the dark portion.

For a relatively inexpensive, relatively ordinary highrise building, Belvedere turned out quite nicely. Wouldn't be a bad design for a Songhees highrise, for example. (or a James Bay one)

Still no word about a possible grocery store for the Y-lot. The realtors insisted Urban Fare or another higher-end grocery store was going to lease space in either Astoria or Belvedere. HOWEVER, the Parkside folks also said they were going to accomodate a grocery chain that was interested in leasing space. It could be that the folks at Concert (developers of the Y-lot) engaged in discussions and decided Parkside's larger space may indeed be more suited for a grocery store operation. Who knows.

But what's more tragic is there's no Starbucks within three blocks of these developments ;)

Know it all.

They had to be lying, there's no chance Urban Fare would ever move into such a small space.

I think we'll see more food-service oriented retail in the area in whatever building is last to be built. Once a stable population is established, we'll start seeing them come.
Looks like Parkside will be the last one built - not including the Falls of course.
