What about all the other stories that are altered? Why focus on the police exclusively?

if you listen to the entire 45 minute canadaland piece - as I did - they suggest David black might have disliked the piece because he is trying to develop a refinery in kitimat. And these protesters were disapproving of a gas pipeline.

Yeah, sure. Manak was going to construct an elaborate system that would block Black Press from seeing its public press releases (they no longer hold pressers, they release content straight to the public).

A handful of times per year they’ll have a mass media invite for a major story, but it’s ultra rare. I know because I receive each invite. Nobody will be kept from that sort of a media environment.

And Black Press doesn’t do interviews so what’s the problem?

the article was changed 6 days later. so it’s unclear if the police had serious issues with it until the chance meeting at the hockey game.

original article feb 1
Hockey game feb 3
New article feb 7

if you know anything about online media the first version will have 5 or 10x more views than the revised version.

The bigger question is which version was “printed.”

why does the VicNews even spend the time to rewrite the press releases?

Why not just come up with the headline and say “VicPD says this”:

https://www.vicnews....ith-metal-pole/

Xxxx

And just post the press release? Seems easier than rearranging words.

With no Malahat 6pm to 6am are the TC copies coming by Mill Bay?

Or no physical paper for a week?

They hope to have the physical paper back tomorrow. Maybe they have ferry reservations now.

TC customers will be laughing when the hoarders buy up all the bathroom tissue.

And now, Victoria News is entering into a new chapter. By launching an added-value subscription program that provides exclusive content and premium benefits to readers, the community has the opportunity to directly support local journalists who live and work here, in the community they serve.

“Engaged local journalism is an essential democratic force and one of the key building blocks to developing an inclusive community that works for everyone,” Randy Blair, Black Press Media’s chief operating officer, said.

“The value-added subscription program is a way for individuals to assist their local community news media in their efforts to give voice to those individuals and organizations who are working to build a better tomorrow for all.”

Digital subscriptions offer the flexibility for each customer to hand-select a plan that fits their readership needs.

Added benefits include exclusive newsletters delivered right to your inbox, community forums to connect with the news team, unlimited access to our provincial news website Today in BC, as well as puzzles, crosswords and premium contests.

In addition to local content, you will also be able to enjoy reading breaking news from around the province and across Canada, brought to you by one of the largest networks of journalists in North America.

We recognize the importance and direct impact of breaking news to our fellow community members. Stories that share important public safety information will always be accessible to all readers.

Most importantly, by subscribing, readers engage with and directly support the entire Victoria News team.

“Living and working in the Capital Regional District, the Victoria News team is so very proud to fulfil our commitments to the community by supporting local organizations, charities and non-profits with their projects, dreams and goals,” group publisher Michelle Cabana said.

“As we enter into this bold new phase, we want to thank you personally for all of your steadfast support of local journalism. Today, more than ever, without you, our community – our faithful readers in both the print and digital realms – this new phase would not be possible.”

So it sounds like a paywall, no?
