Looking at the Swoop flight map now, I can't believe Victoria isn't served while Kelowna is. What in the world is going on? We're shedding carriers one after another, while new entrants forgo the Island as well.

The thing about being retired is this. You don't mind waiting an hour (since you have lots of them) to save a few bucks and you don't spend money on things that you don't need. If I have a plane then I would want to deploy it in a market where I can make the most money. I think that folks at the VAA are getting worried as this trend is likely to continue.

The trend over the last five years of more and more wealthy, well traveled retirees arriving here while the flight network recedes certainly appears to be proof of that.

Oh my god. That’s awful.

Hey, were we aware that Airbus is cancelling the A380 program in 2021?

I believe the announcement came in February after Emirates cancelled their remaining orders in favour of new A330s and A350s

Jetlines has set December 17th as its launch date and has turfed Aercap in favour of using two Smartlynx aircraft.

Jetlines changes their mind on yet another major decision? Shocker... This is actually yet another delay for them. Their AerCap aircraft were due for delivery to YVR this month.

That being said, if you still have confidence in Jetlines, now is a good time to invest. Stock price just plummeted 17%.

Launching at a peak traffic time is certainly an interesting choice. No chance to iron out any blips or bugs, it's trial by fire for their staff. University exam week ends December 20, so I would expect a lot of social media savvy students flying right at launch. Hopefully they have a good communications team!

On their way to save money and not because they don't know YYJ exists! Did a recent price check on a flight from the new Everett airport to San Diego and a family of 4 saves $1,000+.

You can get tickets to SanDiego right now for 400 bucks in May from YYJ. Ferry is a minimum of 200 bucks for 2 people. Plus you have the five hour travel time at least. Factor in gas and assume parking is a wash...

If time has no cost than I suppose but really that is a huge advantage for YYJ.

Everett to San Diego was $175 return. Victoria to Seattle with the layover is 3 hours so not a huge time saving.

The price discrepancy is absolutely crazy... Here's what you'd pay for a one way flight to San Diego on May 11, a Saturday.

YYJ - $161 with a stop in Seattle

YVR - $280 direct, $216 with a stop in Seattle

SEA - $78 direct

PAE (Everett) - $72 direct

BLI (Bellingham) - $133 with a stop in Seattle

Much more expensive to fly from YVR than YYJ!

Are these is US dollars or Canadian?

SEA - $78 direct
PAE (Everett) - $72 direct
BLI (Bellingham) - $133 with a stop in Seattle

As they are US airports, I would assume US dollars. Thus you need to add a 30% surcharge to the above prices. Actually any prices you get out of a US airport.

Took a flight to Cabo one year. We routed through Calgary to pick up the sis-in-law.

We paid $40 less per ticket the she did for her Calgary to Cabo leg. Go figure!

Even with Nexus you are looking at five plus hours in your car or on the ferry before you even begin check in at Paine Field.

CAD. The Seattle flight is $59 USD, for example. Google Flights always gives results in your chosen currency  :)

Very strong message from the London Airport Authority to its region "use it or lose it" for air srevice to their airport.

Victoria is already lost it. Ive heard this motto before somewhere about YYJ. "you can't get there from here".....

YXU (London) is actually a pretty good compatible airport to Victoria. Smack in between two major hub airports on both sides of the border (Toronto and Detroit). Mostly a feeder airport to larger hubs. Similar sized community. I'm curious to see how Swoop does there.

Now that’s the kind of PR campaign the VAA should be running
