...Seriously, in 50 years is this going to end up being the dominant architectural style in Victoria's neighbourhoods?
As opposed to the incredible variety of residential architecture from 1969?

I don't know if that's a strong point. You can pick whatever lame era you like and I bet a donut there was more variety evident in new housing styles in the neighbourhoods than during this peculiar phase of repeating the same basic design and colour palette over and over.
As I've said, I actually don't mind the style itself. A house here or a house there works just fine. But turning adjacent properties or entire streetscapes over to this one style... I don't get it at all. I don't understand why it's happening.

I prefer chocolate glazed but a cruller will do in a pinch.

I can't think of another message board that has a cruller reputation.

We can have our cake and eat it too.
And my confidence in this forum will never dip.

Nah, I’m not that old fashioned.
Does that imply that you occasionally wear long johns?

Fernwood would be much better if it were full of standard-issue brown and grey modern box houses. Seriously, in 50 years is this going to end up being the dominant architectural style in Victoria's neighbourhoods?
No, because a new architectural style will become popular. For example, ornate white houses are all the rage in Vancouver these days.
(Hate to be a jam buster but I just had to bring this discussion back into the box)

I feel like there's a subtext here that I'm missing.

We all like donuts and you can fit a lot of them in a modern box house (or on an online forum)

This proves that Vancouver Specials weren't really the nadir of 'vernacular' West Coast architecture...

^ The Vancouver Special is now looked on with fondness; they're become quaint after 50 years of being lived in, as successive owners have made small alterations here and there to make each one unique. There's a strong desire in some circles to preserve them as a part of the region's architectural heritage.
