1139 Burdett, a 7 unit rental conversion & restoration of a designated heritage building is heading to Committee of the Whole this Thursday Sept 19. Not a huge development but is close to Cook and Fort and will add much needed rental stock to the area in a different format than most of the larger new builds in the area.

Council voted to send this to Public Hearing, no date yet.

It went to the CALUC in August. You can probably guess exactly what was said but, for interest sake, the majority of attendees were in opposition, with the most significant concerns being the density (0.8 FAR) and height (three storeys). The letter is here: http://www.burnsideg...l - 2019.08.pdf

Surely someone must have been concerned about the increase in traffic/parking issues - or did that get left off the NIMBY script?

Oh, those questions came up.
Question: Have you considered underground parking?
Answer: It is too expensive and would make these units unaffordable.
...
Question: Have you done a traffic plan on the increased vehicle traffic?
Answer: We have not but the City will involve their engineering dept. to review.
...
Comment objecting to the increase of traffic on Washington Avenue.

Phew! For a moment I thought someone had gone off script - or worse - actually taken time to consider the specifics of the proposal.

A rezoning application has now been filed for the 150-unit affordable housing development in Fernwood immediately west of Vic High.
I can't find my original post for it, but this article was posted earlier this year about it:

Updated renderings aren't yet available, but the architect is DHK.

Plans are now on dev tracker; the proposal is for 36 units, which makes this the largest townhouse-only development in the City of Victoria in recent years:

Won't someone please think of the children!
Clearly the local housing crisis has been resolved, since nothing like this is required.

The only positive comment in the CALUC report was with regard to the design. Anyone want to bet that ADP rip the design to shreds?!

The proposed development for 1120-1128 Burdett Avenue is a 4-storey, 36 unit building in the Fairfield area of Victoria. There will be both one and two bedroom condos, ranging from 565 to 1,082 square feet. Located close to the vibrant neighbourhoods of Upper Fort Street and Cook Street Village, construction is meant to be completed by 2018.

So is this a brand new proposal or a re-vamp of the previous one?

It’s likely a new proposal because it’s going through the CALUC process all over again.

Well at least the NIMBYs will be able to respond quickly.
