Heard first visit was a bit of a downer. Ship left an hour early and most people were just looking and not buying.

How does that compare to the passengers and crew on BC Ferries?

Yes, cancelled. It’s white windy out there, and it’s going to get even windier.

Know it all.

There is a small American Cruise Lines ship at Ogden Point. It's been here overnight and I've seen a few of their tours walking around James Bay.

Seattle Times:

Seattle cruise industry's comeback marred by COVID outbreak on ship

Passengers infected with the coronavirus aboard the Carnival Spirit are quarantining on land in the Seattle area. The outbreak comes just days into what was supposed to be the Seattle cruise industry's comeback from COVID.

Are they also testing everyone on Washington State Ferries?

TC back off the party invite list.

Cruise ship at centre of recent COVID outbreak arrives in Victoria on Monday

The ship offloaded passengers testing positive for COVID in Seattle and left Tuesday for Skagway, Alaska. It is now on its return voyage.

On short stopovers, especially in late evening, it’s not that common for passengers to leave the ship because of the tight turnaround in scheduling.

So they just make a token stop to meet the guidelines, and dump their garbage? That doesn’t seem ideal.

Have we heard any anecdotes from the tourism industry yet on how the cruise season is playing out so far?

Mostly repositioning cruises at the start, not full ships. Starting to switch over to summer season cruises now. The tours to Butchart etc are going well, but venues are all saying they're understaffed -making it difficult to stay open late for late arriving ships.

Tourist comments are interesting. Repeat visitors from pre-Covid really see the uptick in visible grunge and Douglas is distressing for some. Really.

Butchart is closing early all summer (5PM) and fireworks and live music are off. I understand that for the few days that we have ships in late they will stay open.

Crazy. It’s just a garden. You can run that with just entry admission staff.

A Norwegian Cruise Lines ship pulled into Ogden Point early this morning, and then left less than two hours later. It seems it was an unscheduled stop. I have to assume there may have been a medical emergency on board.
