none. but this city arbitrarily has some type of fair/living wage policy - for staff and contractors - that's over $17/hour and yet 265,000 crew visit each year that make $1.80 an hour.

Many self-employed business people within the City of Victoria earn that, or less, per hour.

they do for the off-hours and opening and closing etc. that’s why family businesses especially restaurants compete heartily with corporate entities. they pay themselves lower wages and benefits than the law would allow for regular employees.

They pay themselves what they can afford to pay themselves. And more often than not it’s a wage that is far, far below minimum wage once actual inputs are factored in.

Be aware of the fact that the Dallas Road cruise ship district is very different and distinct from the Dallas Road cruise district.

Both are fit for docking.

There's some type of small building going up on Coast Guard land, if that's the area you're asking about.

Perhaps when their new building is completed, the SAR folks can search for the real reasons for re-branding Ogden Point.

The promenade along the waterfront in Victoria officially has its new name, a month after the harbour authority faced backlash about the change.

On Wednesday, the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority unveiled the new name for Ogden Point, the harbour area where cruise ships pull into the city, as The Breakwater District at Ogden Point.

While Wednesday’s announcement was the official one for the harbour authority, the name change came out to the public in August. At that point, the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority announced Ogden Point would be renamed The Breakwater District. The words, “at Ogden Point,” were not mentioned and there was some backlash from the community.

Briant Cant, manager of communications for the harbour authority said the full identity was not unveiled in August. He added they also listened to feedback from partners and the community before the unveiling.

And according to Cant, the words “Ogden Point” was always going to remain in the area as it is a navigational point.

Why did they even bother giving it that mouthful of a name? People will either say "the breakwater" or "Ogden Point". No one will say both.

I dunno, I always think of 'District 9' when they call something a district.  Not exactly an inviting ring to it.

The District of Mission wants to become a city, but does it mean anything?
