What happens if a non indigenous student enters the indigenous lounge? Do they call security?

Nothing. UVic is hardly the first place to have one (and in fact already has one in the SUB basement). There's one at UBCO that I used a couple times when I was a student there (2008-2012) despite not being First Nations myself.

2,921 beds (i.e. traditional dorms and shared accommodation) and 181 family housing units. The family units are all existing, this project only adds new beds.

Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations will be at UVic tomorrow to make a funding announcement regarding a “significant capital contribution” to UVic’s Indigenous Law program.

Know it all.

UVic needs 18 million in funding to build their planned addition to the Fraser building, which is all for the new Law program. This could be 1/3 or 1/2 of that.

Good. One of the main points of public feedback during an extensive open house-consultative process was that UVic should focus on building Up, Not Out. Nice to see this one was approved and without the usual hysterics associated with many similar 'tall' proposals. A refreshing change.

There was a funding announcement planned for Monday for a Coast Capital Savings Innovation Centre. The event has been cancelled in light of the bus accident.

Is this innovation centre a new buildings that’s being planned?

It already exists, in the Sedgewick building. Probably another cash infusion, it originally opened with about a half mil from Coast Capital. 2017 I think?

Though in related news, UVic is getting a couple federal investments for other programs, as are VIATEC and Camosun. Details here: https://betakit.com/...ral-government/

UVic's programs include the Centre for Aerospace Research, National Consortium for Indigenous Economic Development, and Ocean Networks Canada

I believe CCS is providing a $1-million infusion this time around.

I was biking through UVic the other day and was surprised to see how far along this is already. I suppose no underground parking so construction is much faster?

Classes certainly are in session, and in any case, the residence area isn’t really that close to any classroom spaces.
