Cider enthusiasts can celebrate – a new family-run cidery just opened to the public on the Saanich Peninsula.

Victoria Cider Co., located at 9635 West Saanich Rd., is a five-acre property with apple trees, a 100-year-old home, and a classic barn-red tasting room. The cidery’s tasting room, which officially opened on Aug. 12, was a long-time dream for the Ralph family, who have owned the property for more than 12 years.

The Seattle Seahawks and Lumen Field announced today plans to modernize the stadium's concessions experience with a new store powered by Amazon's Just Walk Out technology for checkout-free shopping and Amazon One for entry and payment with palm recognition. Lumen Field will become the first NFL stadium to implement both technologies in a single store, District Market. Amazon's technologies are designed to offer fans a frictionless shopping experience as they grab food and drinks to get them back to the game faster by eliminating checkout lines.

In collaboration with Lumen Field's hospitality partner, Levy, and DBK Studio, Levy's innovation studio, Lumen Field's store equipped with Amazon's technologies is scheduled to open in time for the 2022 Seahawks regular season.

"We are continually looking at new ways to innovate and modernize our fan experience, and we know fans will love the fast, convenient experience the Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One-enabled store will deliver," said Zach Hensley, Seahawks Vice President of Operations and General Manager, Lumen Field. "We are proud to bring this technology to our fans so they can spend more time enjoying the game."

"We're excited to partner with the Seahawks and Lumen Field to bring Seattle fans an incredibly fast and convenient new way to enjoy their favorite food and beverage," said Sandeep Satish, Managing Director of DBK Studio and Vice President of Strategy & Analytics for Levy at E15 Group. "Checkout-free experiences, like District Market, have taken off in a very short amount of time because they give fans unprecedented control and enable them to spend so much more time enjoying the event. We look forward to continuously growing these truly frictionless experiences."

The stadium's Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One-enabled store will be located on the upper concourse in an upgraded area of section 323. District Market will offer a selection of assorted beer, wine, seltzers, and non-alcoholic beverages, along with gameday snacks and cuisine from the stadium's community neighbors in Seattle's International District. Fans purchasing alcohol will be required to show their ID to a store attendant for age verification.

use nitro? iirc they'd need to tweak the mash bill to use nitrogen but i don't think it's that complicated:

The U.S. is experiencing a shortage of carbon dioxide and Boston beermakers are beginning to worry they won't have enough of the gas to get their products to market.

Driving the news: A CO2 production hub in Jackson, Mississippi, became contaminated by an extinct volcano, which cut down on an already limited supply of the gas.

  • The pandemic put pressure on the CO2 market and drove up prices in part due to the immense amount of dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide) needed to transport COVID-19 vaccines last year.

AI, or artificial intelligence, is everywhere. It's in banking, navigation and travel, and social media to tailor ads on our feeds, among other things.

Now, a Victoria brewery is making beer using an AI-generated recipe.

Whistle Buoy Brewing partner Isaiah Archer says his team had been playing around with the program ChatGPT, hoping it would help with developing product descriptions and writing social media posts, when they were inspired to try something else.

"As we were typing various things into it, we thought, let's see what happens if we ask it to give us a beer recipe," he told CBC's Rohit Joseph. They asked for a fluffy, tropical hazy pale ale.

It spat out a recipe that, for the most part, works.

On top of that, they also granted approval for a new 33-person outdoor patio at the Vancouver Island Brewery and the company now just needs approval from the liquor board.

You wouldn’t know if you tasted it, but Epic OneWater Brew is a beer with a peculiar ingredient: it’s made with water recycled from the showers, sinks and washing machines of a residential building.

The beer is safe to drink, thanks to a series of treatments that include microfiltration and ultraviolet light, and it is meant to bring attention to the issue of water scarcity and reuse.

“Buildings globally use 14% of all potable water,” says Aaron Tartakovsky, CEO and co-founder of Epic Cleantec, the San Francisco-based water treatment company that made the beer in collaboration with a local brewery. “Almost no buildings reuse that water — that’s what we’re trying to change.”

& iirc only about half of a brewery's water gets turned into beer, the other half is used for sanitation. i'm pretty sure that's changing though.

Nerds being nerds.

If you truly want to conserve water, you would not be using it to make a liquid poison that dehydrates the person drinking it.

This just might be the stupidest thing I’ve seen all summer.
