Whatever, hipster!

Want to see change? Focus on your own council, not mine.

You know I mean that with tongue firmly in cheek, but seriously, unless you vote in the CoV please give us the freedom to direct our tax dollars as we, the taxpayer, see fit.

So should VV be shutdown? Or perhaps the site name changed to Vibrant City of Victoria. No sense in this Saanich resident commenting on Victoria matters. One more reason to visit this site less, I suppose. Nevermind that the Saanich Victoria border is an arbitrary, bureaucratic line in the sand that functionally means next to nothing.

Not to mention I wasn’t even speaking at the town hall as a resident of Saanich but as the treasurer of an organization with hundreds of members who are residents in the CoV proper.

What does speaking at a town hall have to do with filling out an online survey directed at City of Victoria taxpayers?

I never realized there was so much desire for meddling in Victoria’s affairs by non-residents. Maybe an investigation into the integrity of the City of Victoria’s taxpayer-focused feedback mechanisms is in order.

Jonny, why do you think it’s inportant for you, being a Saanich resident, to have a say in whether or not the CoV spends $80k extra next year on graphic design work? That was one of the survey questions. Is that something that you think is up to a Saanich resident to weigh in on?

Anyways, anyone can fill out the CoV’s questionnaires, of course, but the reaction to the thought of leaving CoV taxpayers to decide how to spend their hard-earned tax dollars is interesting.

If anything this discussion just furthers the need for amalgamation when residents can’t see the borders between municipalities but politicians are hellbent on maintaining them.

I’m all for amalgamation and it’s great that you guys feel the same way about it as I, but we really need you to drive that point home to your elected officials when you find yourselves more involved or engaged in a neighbouring municilaity’s politics than your own.

Sure hire a couple extra staff and get to the bottom of it. Until then I’ll comment on whatever I feel like.

100%. I encourage you to comment on whatever you feel like. I think we can both agree commenting on issues and filling out municipal questionnaires for taxpayers are two different things.

But then again, what do I know. Maybe the CoV wants anyone and everyone to comment on those forms. Maybe they’re more interested in the number of respondents than the results of the questionnaires.

I have filled out some of the CoV questionnaires. There’s always a question on there for which neighbourhood the person is living in. And there’s a choice for non-residents too. What happens when the answers go in the black box is beyond me.

That's so Victoria City Hall staff and councillors can provide input.

As you know, the survey was about much more than that.

I guess I'm just not all that fixated on imaginary and arbitrary municipal boundaries that really serve no purpose other than bureaucracy and administration. You're acting like we're commenting on the municipal budget of Honk Kong. Rather, we are speaking of the oddity that is Victoria which consists of a number of cities that are intimately connected and nearly indistinguishable.

Anyway, I trust you will not comment on Saanich, Langford, Oak Bay, Central Saanich, Sidney, Esquimalt, Colwood or View Royal municipal affairs [not]. Everybody should stay in their lane, amirite?
