The Art of Slow Food has opened a wood-fired pizza cart in the Cook Street Village to serve gluten-free sourdough pizzas.

Website:  https://www.theartof.../sourdoughpizza

Ciccio's Cucina has found a 'permanent' home in the food cart area of the Cook St Village as well; the chefs hail from Italy.

The other carts/trucks that are parked in the immediate area at 325 Cook St. include Greek on the Street, Morning People (breakfast and lunch), Naked Dressings (salads and bowls), and a coffee cart...

Bubby's in Quadra Village seems to be coming along slowly. Windows are still papered up. Looks like a shiny new vent, presumably for the kitchen, has been added on the Kings Rd side, while what looks like a patio area is being formed on the Quadra side.

It looks like something new is going in the former Vietnamese restaurant on Fisgard, next to the Chinese school.  The interior looked a little different from what I could see through the window.

Further down the street, leased signs are up in the Jusu location next to La Roux.

Looks like Yua Japanese Bistro is open at the Vietnamese restaurant. Menu looks great. Excited to try this place out!

Victoria City Council recommits to ending sexualized violence in the city's hospitality industry

Councillors are wading into the ongoing reckoning over sexualized violence in the hospitality industry as the city's nightlife and restaurant scenes reawaken. Last fall a rash of accusations flew regarding harassment and assault, both among people working in the hospitality industry and its patrons. Now council, with industry at the table, is looking at how it can prevent that from happening again. Advocates are happy to see progress—but they've seen this all happen before, and last time, nothing was done.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen (aka Popeyes Chicken) is landing in Victoria!

The article says 1614 McKenzie, which would be somewhere in Tuscany Village I think? I'm assuming there's a mistake and it should be the former Starbucks at 1646 McKenzie...

Jobs ads are available online but don't reference a location. Unfortunately the only available info is from DailyHive: https://dailyhive.co...en-bc-locations

It must be the old Starbucks because the only other suitable vacant space at Tuscany Village is the small unit in the Original Joe's building that was briefly a frozen yogurt joint.

Dumpling Drop in Chinatown:

My mom was working as a server at that same Thai restaurant when she started having trouble remembering orders. The diagnosis came in 2016. It was Alzheimer's, and at an unusually early age.

She couldn't work anymore, and that feeling of indebtedness I mentioned previously told me I had to care for her.

...

When her neurologist told us that fine-motor activity kept symptoms at bay, I thought of how we used to roll dumplings together with all of my neighbourhood aunties in Thailand. So my mom and I started doing just that.

...

It's been five years since her diagnosis, and my mom still comes in and rolls dumplings with me at Dumpling Drop. We roll dumplings with her "beautiful angels" — that's what she calls the staff.

Oh wow, that's written by Tarn herself.

She's an amazingly positive person, that's for sure. It looks like she's really found her groove with Dumpling Drop.

Unless its taking over Original Joe's, which is gone.

No, they are open. I mentioned earlier they were briefly closed a few weeks back for a bit. Probably regrouping following the latest shutdown.
