^Ah, but that path is littered with the corpses of the earnest and well-intentioned.

the 5-year failure rate is probably lower than other industries. I don’t know. they are just very visible failures when they occur.

The new Pluto's has been open for a while. It's quite a change going from the most open and visible restaurant with its patio and huge glass garage doors to going into one of the least visible restaurant spaces in that there is now only one window to the street and that is occupied by the kitchen.

Was past there recently. It definitely doesn't have the presence it used to.

There are pros to buying a restaurant?

We are more than half way through our ninth year. When we met with the lawyer initially, the first thing she asked was if she could talk us out of it, lol.

Many people told me, and I think this is true for most independent owners, that you are just buying yourself a job. It’s worked out so well, we’re buying another job too.

One of the reasons John Reese and I decided to start Table Nine Podcast was to provide newcomers and seasoned pros with tips and reminders about running a food/beverage business. Like any industry, the risk of failure is present and often I see people assuming that positive comments from family and friends about their signature dish will create a successful business model. The pros are there if an operator can apply the same passion to the business end as they do to the menu items

The dentist would have done well to subscribe to our podcast which would have helped him calm down and keep the eye on the prize. Over 30 years of experience for free I might add

We will be having women in the industry join our show and no doubt the topic of sex and/or sexual harassment will come up. Bourdain's description highlights why failure occurs. Starting any business with a motivation other than the purity of the industry rarely results in something satisfying for any of the participants

My first restaurant job was working for a retired dentist. Interesting theme.

conceptually they were in the sex industry, so the "purity" was there

Some progress at the new Bubby's. The shiny new vent is now full height, and a railing has been added around the presumed patio area.
