Driving her kids to elementary school and she is in the process of retiring?
Either she had kids very late in life or that is one heck of retirement plan.

Many people took to Twitter and Reddit to address the message as a form of victim blaming, and criticized Oak Bay Police for detracting from the conversation about real sources of drug overdose.
Police responds“The majority who have criticized the account seize any opportunity to criticize police accounts,” Deputy Chief Bernoties tells Victoria Buzz.
“There are some who have expressed concern who I have clarified the intent [to] and I have taken down the tweet to ensure no further misunderstanding. The message was…to have property crime victims consider what happens to their property when it’s stolen.”
Bernoties clarifies that his original intent was to help people understand that the story doesn’t end with an item being stolen from their vehicle.
“That [item] is sold and turned into drugs quite quickly. I was trying to draw a link so that people understood that the story carries on. Many people have told me they understood,” he said.
“I believe it is naïve to think people who are addicted to opioids will simply overcome their addiction. I believe addiction is a health issue not a criminal one.”

the article seems to imply the ridiculous social media posts originate with the chief himself.

Yeah, it does. When I spoke with the chief last he said they have a social media person who handles that (not necessarily just a social media person, though). Now I'm confused.

I was under the impression that the Deputy Chief (Bernoties) ran the twitter account

yes sorry that's what i meant. seems we hear from him much more than the chief (andy brinton - hired nearly 6 years ago).

Ah, ok that makes sense.
I would have imagined the individual handling social media would be a staffer, not a deputy chief.

https://www.vicnews....alls-last-week/.... In the past few years, even the Oak Bay Police have had to resuscitate residents who’ve overdosed on opioid, likely due to the inclusion of fentanyl.
This week the police department’s spunky social media account reminded people that it’s some of Greater Victoria’s most vulnerable residents entering unlocked cars and removing items.
The post came in response to yet another report of theft from an unlocked vehicle. The first was an older Garmin GPS and the insurance papers for the vehicle. It happened overnight between Remembrance Day and the Tuesday morning in the 1400-block of Oliver Street. The second was the next night, when someone took some change from the console of a vehicle on the 2100-block of Fair Street.....

You gotta love the "desperate people" defense. It's the 2019 version of the Twinkie defense I guess and equally as valid.

Maybe they’re desperate for a good point.

Funny, I was actually thinking that last night. Seems Bernoties is the public face of the department as he is much more visible than Brinton. The last time I remember hearing anything about or from Brinton was 2 years ago when he hit a deer on his bicycle.

^ Won't make a difference if the Mayor(s) try to cover up the incident.
