Methinks many people can't imagine that the Adelphi and all of that other glorious stuff was knocked down (because, you know, Victoria is/was all about preserving heritage).

Plans are underway to redevelop 1125 Fort Street. Details:
- The existing house would be moved forward within the property and would receive a heritage designation
- Concurrently, the house would be divided into two strata units (one for the basement and a 2-storey unit for the rest of the property)
- 3 additional strata units would be built at the rear, bringing the total number of units to five
- The development will include an elevator, a rooftop garden (on top of the new structure), and four parking stalls accessed from Meares St.

In Victoria a tiny 1920s building like this one in Windsor would be knocked down without a second thought. You'd get laughed at for suggesting it was worth spending any money to save it, let alone close to $6 million*. But in Ontario it's heritage.
Pic of how it looked before renovation...
Just imagine what could have been done with the Fairfield church (restoration/renovation of the old building + new construction next door to make it feasible).
Windsor, Ontario Sandwich Fire Hall/Public Library project...
*SSP forumer says only $2.5 million, but news articles quote a higher number and say it went $3 million over budget.

Spencer Castle (on Cook south of Finlayson) caught fire today. Quite a lot of damage but the structure was saved, according to VicFD.

Revised plans and a DP application came in last week. Plans available on the Dev Tracker: https://tender.victo...Number=REZ00712
Slight revision to the tenure, as it now includes 4 strata units and a rental suite in the main dwelling (previously the basement was to be a strata unit).

Are they not making these units rentals?
One rental unit. The addition has three strata units, and the existing home will remain a single strata unit. The basement (which was previously proposed as a strata unit) will be secured as rental in a housing agreement with the City. Letter from the developer is in the Dev Tracker folder, and here for convenience: https://tender.victo...828111354465659

Fantastic opportunity to acquire a historic turn-of-the-century building with revitalized modern interiors. The property is ideally located in Old Town at the corner of Yates and Wharf Street.

The Heritage Advisory Panel had a busy meeting in May it looks like. Of note:
- new architectural lighting for the Scotiabank at the corner of Douglas and Yates
- facade restoration of the "Palace Cigar Store" building at 574 Yates Street
- additional glazing restoration of the Fairfield Block/Sally's building at 1601 Douglas Street
The meeting slides with drawings and renderings are available online: https://www.victoria...ion- May 12.pdf

Good news about uncovering some of the old windows on the Fairfield Block, and also the reno work for one of the old brick houses on Pembroke.
