Rec'd an email from Spinnakers today, that didn't take too long to get part of it reopened.

Happy Holidays from the Hadfields and all of the Spinnakers family!

The downstairs bar has been cleared to OPEN! Join us on Friday Dec. 2nd for the soft-opening of the bar, beer and charcuterie will be available from 5pm- midnight! The bar will maintain regular hours of 11am-12pm. See you there!

Contractors have built walls to separate the sections that need work from the area that is open.

To achieve the speedy reopening, Hadfield is paying for the repairs out-of-pocket, instead of waiting for the insurance process that would have held up renovations until February.

“Our biggest cost in this whole thing is not being open,” Hadfield said. “The process we’re going through is so much less expensive than the typical [insurance] process.”

All employees were told they would be paid until the business reopens, a move lauded by customers who told Hadfield the staff is key to their loyalty.

Hadfield said he’s overwhelmed by support from the community. The Island Chefs Collaborative announced Thursday that it is donating $12,000 to help Spinnakers reopen.

Hadfield credits the fire department with saving the building and preventing further damage.

“They went so far as to remove the model ships above the fireplace and tuck them away for safety,” he said. “It’s beyond words.”

As regular customers in the guest house, we agree that the staff is very good.  We are only there 2 or 3 times a year, but the breakfast staff know us, remember where we're from & even how we like our breakfast.

Paul Hadfield spoke at last night's Bayview party and thanked everyone for their support and help in getting Spinnakers reopened (the downstairs portion).  And yes, that's a glass of Nut Brown Ale in his hand.  They were serving it along with their Kolsch, as well as several varieties of wine.

Yates Street Taphouse Bar&Grill: In support for our friends at Spinnakers Brewpub we have opened up two beer taps to help them move some inventory while their pub is still just partially opened. We will now be pouring Fresh Hopped Sooke ESB and Blue Bridge Double Pale Ale at the Yates St. Taphouse!

If it had not opened so early, I'd still be at 39,985 posts.

Kudos to whoever designed the Trump posters on the partition wall upstairs.

It reads along the lines " We built a wall. Making Spinnakers Great again "

That fireman's beer is really, really cool. Good for them.

I wouldn't drink beer if I were dying of thirst and it was the only liquid available, but even I think this is a terrific way to acknowledge those who worked so hard to ensure that Spinnakers survived to brew another day.

Ya, it's neat.  They have some flexibility for shorter runs, it's sort of a foil label that goes onto blank cans.  A few cents more per can, but makes it versatile.

Only if the label was designed since Christmas Day.  ;)
