...presumably he also has business interruption insurance so he is getting paid to pay his staff while they are closed.

But that type of insurance covers the owner's lost income, not the staff's income, correct?

You can have it cover staff, or just key staff if you prefer.

Can you see good in the world at all or are you just always sad?

On top of every thing, it seems that their website has been hacked.

If insurance is covering his lost income then he should be in a good position to cover his lost expenses :-)

Either/or, obviously the premiums are higher for all staff.  I'll guess 98%* of employers do not buy the type to cover all staff.  So either he has the higher premium, or he's paying out of his own pocket, either way that's kind, and it's costing him money.

Oh, you'd be surprised how much/little money you have left over after everything.  One drive-by shooting at Strath has cost the business over $1M in extra insurance premiums already.

How much did the drive-in window and down the stairs cost them?

Well, that might have been covered off fine.  Cars crash into buildings all the time.

I'd like to see some VHF stats on that.

This is a gofundme page similiar to the one created by Mike K for the Blanshard Court Fire Victims Fund that so far has raised $3,848.

Do we know if the staff of Spinnakers wages are covered by insurance? These folks have not lost their home, so this is a different situation.

On November 23rd, 2016 Spinnakers Brewpub (Canada's oldest brewpub), suffered a chimney fire that swept through the pub and restaurant.

Thankfully everyone got out safe, but this historic building was crippled.

The staff at Spinnakers are a family who will bond together and recover from this blow to the family's home, but could use our help.

I thought that was the case, that the staff will be compensated while they rebuild?

I guess so.  Keep in mind more much more than half the salary of servers is tips.

We're coming into the busiest time of year for the food service industry and the hospitality industry in general is always chronically understaffed. They'll be fine.

Spinnakers Brewpub employees, facing an uncertain future after fire damaged their building, have been told they’ll be paid until the business reopens. - See more at: http://www.timescolo...u.dQMq7YaL.dpuf

Kudos to Spinnakers. Pretty sure not all businesses would do this.

Is it just me, or has the service and food gone down hill at Spinnakers? It used to be an awesome place for food, drinks and great views. Now the staff seem agitated and the food leaves much to be desired.

Thoughts?

I recently (late August) had a few issues with the service, and made an effort to advise them of what I saw and what I've experienced.  It didn't go well.  I wished them the best for their ongoing efforts in building a strong team and I never went back.  I do hope they come back better and stronger after this terrible fire.
