Are they all closing? The Royal Oak location is shutting down as well.

Nothing says I sorta care like a card from a dollar store.

Greeting cards are one business I hope dies. What a waste of paper. Got something to tell someone, tell them in person, or call them.

Island Afrikan Supermarket is opening on Quadra near Hillside across from San Remo. A great addition to Quadra Village.

A phone call doesn't leave one with much of a keepsake especially if you are separated by distance, time or eventually death. I have held onto a few cards that I received from now deceased loved ones over the years which I cherish. Knowing they took the time to choose the card expressing a sentiment they felt reflected the relationship we had and also knowing their hand wrote some words, or even just their name upon it, cannot even be remotely replicated with a something as ephemeral as a phone call.

I love getting cards, actually. And I love giving cards, too. But I admit I've let that slide a little bit lately.

Here's a tip, though. The Papery on Fort at Douglas has a great selection.

I usually give flowers...anything from roses to dandelions.

^ I consider cut flowers those only slightly better than greeting cards, unless they are potted. Get someone a nice potted Orchid - taken care of, it'll last a lot longer than the 2-3 weeks of a bouquet.

I do enjoy saddling my friends with obligations to water and look after a plant when I want to send them some kind of acknowledgement. (*cough*)

Sometime all you want is 2-3 weeks of a bouquet.

I thought I read somewhere (in this thread maybe?) that Hallmark was looking at co-locating in other stores?

I could be wrong but hasn’t spend excessive amounts on money
on trinkets or cards getting to be a thing of the past .
No one I know likes trinkets and if you really want to send a paper card dollar stores
are better value .

Just send me a pizza when you know I'm home. Better than flowers or cards and appropriate for all occasions!

I save the old pizza boxes and put those in the oven for awhile to remind me why I don't like pizza all the time.

We buy cut flowers all year round, not just for special occasions. We have no place to put potted plants indoors. And we buy cards.
