Two cars, three rebates so far. I assume one more rebate is coming, then?

I’m starting to like this.

Next year we will have to have our "post covid path forward" election and then right after that we will be told ICBC is back in the tank and rates will need to be jacked for better care and faster service.

Yup that sounds about right.

Like the water rate issue, where the CRD pleaded for conservation, then raised rates as conservation meant budget gaps.

Ohhh another rebate??? Can't wait to figure out where to spend that next $4 cheque.  Paid by Visa but they sent a chq.  No claims, no tickets, 40 years of safe driving...

and (FINALLY) online renewals.

Farnworth says that ICBC customers renewing policies on or after May 1, 2022, will have the option to complete the process online via a computer, tablet or mobile phone.

With the new online system, customers will be able to renew their insurance up to 44 days ahead of the expiration date, Farnworth said during a press conference on Monday.

This means that online renewals will become available to British Columbians by March 17 of this year.

Sure, if budgets can balance themselves, nothing is impossible.

ICBC driving simulator mimics real-life road hazards

“With more British Columbians getting their driver's licence than ever before, we encourage new drivers to use the Street Sense app as another tool to gain experience detecting hazards and keep them and others safe while behind the wheel," said ICBC vice-president Lindsay Matthews in a release.

Today, anyone can log in to Street Sense via a mobile app or web-based browser. In time, the plans is to have the simulator available on virtual reality headsets as well.

I'm still waiting for a game that lets me drive around and race based on Google maps data. The data and capabilities are there, someone just need to put it all together.

So ICBC says discontinuing licence plate decals will reduce theft (of license plates or decals, presumably).

I wonder though if it might make it somewhat easier for uninsured cars to drive undetected, at least undetected by the general public.

Probably not many. But maybe if you had a suspicious car with expired decals parked in your neighbourhood, or just a car in your business or residence parking lot you might take some action.

Now you will not know.

It might be good if they also provided a simple website where you could plug in the license plate - and the only data returned is INSURED or UNINSURED.
