It’d be pretty cool if the team sponsored several additional game-themed 50’, 61’s and 70’s. Why not?

The Giants had 4500 fans at games 1 and 2 at home last Friday and Saturday.
The Royals consistently have had higher than average attendance for the WHL. They blow 90% of teams out of the water.
That being said, clearly there was less excitement around the team this year in what was suppossedly a rebuilding year. So many of their recent star players have left.
And yes they are terrible at marketing. They really seem to focus 100% of their energy on the retiree and young family demographics. I've commented before on how it's shocking how little Royals swag you see downtown at pubs and restaurants.

That is because retirees make up most of the crowd! If you are living downtown and complaining that rent is too expensive then you probably can't come up with $50 for two to go to a hockey game.

That, and coordinated transit services. Vancouver can pump out several additional skytrains on game day but transit here is just regularly scheduled programming.
It’d be pretty cool if the team sponsored several additional game-themed 50’, 61’s and 70’s. Why not?
Vancouver Giants play in Langley. Transit is not great, but there's an ocean of parking.

The series comes to Canadian ice for three games – Dec. 17 in Moncton, N.B., Feb. 3 in Victoria, B.C., and Feb. 5 in Vancouver, B.C. Check out the best the women’s game has to offer, with proceeds from all ticket sales supporting women’s hockey across the country.

Had so much fun attending a Harbourcats game this summer, figure this winter I should try a Royals game.
Looks like December 7 is Teddy Bear toss. Are there any other special theme games that might be more interesting to someone who doesn't usually pay attention to sports?
Recommendations on where to sit? I don't mind paying extra for a better experience. Only been in the arena once, many years ago for a concert.

Teddy Bear toss is one of the best nights of the year to be there.

What are the factors here? Why is the team not thriving?

More than a 20% drop in less than a decade while the population grew by 10%, and the downtown/periphery population alone grew by thousands of people.
What are the factors here? Why is the team not thriving?
all lower league sports are down north america-wide on the whole.
i think they are just competing with the availability of almost all sports events online or entertainment generally online. and they are adding no extra value to the $20 or $25 they want for you to go in person.
the lack of the 14-30 crowd at all spectator sports should be alarming. kids under 14 go with parents. kids older are like why would i enjoy 3 hours in a cold rink when i can play fortnite for nothing at home.

The reality is that, as much as I like it, hockey is not a very popular sport. Major Junior has decent attendance all things considering.
The 2019-20 season is not yet done and the numbers could be higher at the end of season. Last year the final four home games had higher attendance, it would take not that many games with 5500 or more people to get to 4800 for the end of the year. They are 8th out of 22 teams in the WHL.
The numbers would be considered good in a lot of senior European leagues other than the KHL (would be ahead of #21 of 25 teams) and the Swedish Hockey League (would be ahead of #12 in the 14 team league) the Swiss-A (would be last behind 12 teams). They are also doing better than about a 1/3 of the AHL teams and 2/3s of the ECHL teams.
If you factor out the first two seasons the team was in the league, 4800 is their number other than 2017/18 and maybe this year
