Hold on, the article says this is just a piece of cranium. Are we 100% sure this is not just an old cow skull?

You can forgive me for being skeptical about what an "expert" finds in the water.

I think we need to do more research before the media calls up the poor Dunahees for their reaction.

it seemed a bit insensitive to put all those photos in the article.  maybe not.  i do not know.  i suppose some families or maybe most are grateful every time their missing person case gets a bit more media coverage.

Human remains found in waterway likely don’t belong to Michael Dunahee or Emma Fillipoff, police say

May 12, 2021

“A group of recreational divers discovered a partial cranial bone, so part of a human skull,” said VicPD spokesperson, Bowen Osoko. The human remains are believed to be less than 100 years old.

“Our initial investigation suggests this is unlikely to be Michael Dunahee. It’s unlikely to be Emma Fillipoff, ”

that's too bad.  it seemed a bit odd this one.

or maybe it just seemed different than all the "at risk" persons missing we get used to.

"Although a full determination has yet to be made, RCMP do not believe that criminality was involved in the woman’s sudden death.”

Gorge skull fragment could bring closure to one Greater Victoria missing person case

Skeletal remains found in Greater Victoria have not yet been identified

 May. 12, 2021

Investigators are working to identify skeletal remains discovered in the Gorge Waterway earlier this year and with a number of missing person cases in Greater Victoria, and on the Island, that could be no small task.

The partial remains of a human skull were found in February by recreational drivers and were initially thought to be archaeological, according to a statement from the Victoria Police Department. But the remains are now believed to be historic in nature, meaning the person died within the past 100 years.

These are only a handful of Greater Victoria’s missing person cases.

I was going to say Carmen Robinson but it appears the article has made the connection.
