Pretty sure Yates St Taphouse’s front patio has a bunch of TVs.

The usual price for this gastronomic disaster is $67, a nod to 1967, the last year the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup.
But because managing partner Ken Whitaker is feeling good these days — his Montreal Canadiens remain in the playoffs while the Leafs have been chased to the golf course, just as God, or at least Guy Lafleur, intended — you can order this appropriately overpriced mess for half the usual cost.

And then this week the menu item has “resurfaced”. Dozens of news outlets all across the country and beyond have it.

This speakeasy in Victoria asks hopeful visitors to make a literary choice to enter
Artemis Whiskey Bar boasts a collection of 200 different whiskeys

"Speakeasies are about having that unique element," Patel said.
Just like the book shelves by the entrance.
"Unless you pick the correct book, you're not allowed in," he said.
"There have been several instances where people [said] 'I don't wanna pick a book' and then they just leave and we let them leave because we are trying to create that secrecy and trying to create that experience where you've got to pick the right book. We are very unique.

FFS.
I walked by this place the other day. I didn't know what the books were all about at the entrance, and the place looked closed. So we kept walking.
Sort of a #fail, I guess? Secrecy and history go well together.

A big huge nope. Drinking at home is way easier. But I'm also way past hipster age.

The pick-a-book speakeasy sounds like a cool idea. I'll have to check it out, though with my luck I'll guess the wrong book.

Clarke & Co in the 1000 block of Blanshard made the announcement on Instagram, saying that it will be closing on April 9.
Customers were always dazzled with the staff’s ability to find out what you like and then build a cocktail to meet that.

I think this was basically somebody's hobby and/or passion, with somewhat odd hours: closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00 to 1:00 on Sunday and Monday, and 6:00 to 1:00 Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
I walk by quite frequently at night, and it seems to keep those hours.
I've never seen it packed, but it always seems to have patrons in it.

Singer doesn’t know what will happen at the site after he closes the pub, but he hopes it will be good for the community.

Great guy; Bill used to be head bartender at the "old" Oak Bay Hotel Snug Pub in the mid-80's. He was just awesome to our UVic gang back in the day, tolerating our shenanigans and often pouring 'singles' that were really doubles and doubles that were really....um.....whatever, lol.
Super interesting guy who I believe was born in Israel and back then would go back each year to perform his two weeks' military service. Damn wish I'd known he was the principal of Rumrunners, I'd have made the effort to get out there. Happy retirement Bill, you've earned it......
