As the region grows and more and more people descend onto local parks and wilderness areas, expect more of these fires.

The cause of this fire has not been confirmed by the fire service. But it certainly wasn’t lightning or glow bugs.

That being said, we’re likelt to see quite a few individuals with fireworks who won’t stop to assess wind conditions and whether it’s safe to put on a light show.

Complete and utter **** show.

Whether you're heading into or out of town, stay East ... WAY East!

And by "way East" I mean Cook Street.

Folks are getting tangled up in those one way and right turn only streets around the Public Market, which is locking up Blanshard St in both directions, Government Street in both directions, and of course Douglas Street is blocked off completely.

Workmen are about to fix a torch-on roof at the Halibut House building at Cloverdale and Quadra. They're setting up the propane tanks and hoses. Nothing has happened yet but they are both having a cigarette so you might want to keep an ear on the scanner in case something pops up.

I can’t help but think it involves a vehicle exiting Chambers onto Johnson.

It wasn't that far up Johnson, although that is definitely a harrowing left turn onto Johnson for sure. It looked like it was someone who came out of the parking lot of the apartment next to the medical building.

At any rate, it's all cleared up now.

Cigarettes are a health hazard, though not usually considered an emergency.

Or were you concerned about an open flame near the propane?  I'm thinking that is unavoidable when working with a propane torch...

I don't know, the whole scenario looked like the start of a Laurel and Hardy movie to me. Or this old joke.

this is almost hard to comprehend how many people could die in an incident like this.  75-foot boat on fire and maybe 34 dead.  off los angeles.

34 people missing after dive boat fire off Santa Cruz Island

now reports say it was a dive boat on a three-day excursion.  so perhaps all the people were sleeping?  the fire was reported around 3:30am.  that's awful.

Here is the plan of the sleeping deck. Multiple bunk beds all in one room. This is awful.

Looks like only one small stair exit to the galley. If the fire started in the galley, I can't even imagine...

Oh my. Hard to imagine a boat carrying that many people would not have more exits.

i think it would have some type of emergency hatch to another overhead section (above the waterline) but not necessarily a fulltime starwell up.
