Any truth to the rumour that a Swedish production company is shooting a direct-to-video superhero movie in the old Sears space?

I don't believe it. Walmart and Hillside Shopping Centre wouldn't lie to me and they said they weren't going there.

Isn’t it a Safeway?

Know it all.

yes you can only cry wolf so many times.  it's probably an ikea.  or a target.  a bowling alley or movie theatre would be cool.

Walmart has announced that it’s opening a Supercentre store at Hillside Shopping Centre in early 2022...

So it will take at least another year to transform the former Sears store into a Walmart Supercentre? It didn't take much longer than this to build the Uptown store from the ground up.

Also, does anyone know what all the excavation in the parking area around the new Walmart store is for?

that’s a good question. I wonder if this new store is going to maybe have some high tech in-car pick-up capacity or similar.

people love drive-thrus! not just for coffee and donuts anymore.

Pickup: Expanding Walmart Grocery Pickup to approximately 270 stores – or 70 per cent of locations – by the end of 2020.

Hybrid locations: Piloting 10 hybrid locations – supercentres with expanded omnichannel fulfilment space within their stores to increase the speed of fulfilment for pickup and delivery.

I'm too lazy to find out how long it took to renovate Zellers into Target and Target into Canadian Tire.

The former involved building a new structure; the latter was a renovation of the former Target store.

I think even the latter required some structural improvements because a Canadian Tire has a heavier - literally - footprint especially on the upper floor.

No idea but I'm assuming they'll be tacking on a new entrance space for shopping carts and maybe even checkout? Also, surely they'll be adding some additional parking? I thought additional parking was the vision for that back corner of the Hillside property long before Mike K. had started the first (and since proven false) Wal-Mart rumour? Even back when the auto centre was still standing?

I wish they would cut out a few windows on the north and east sides of Sears. Wal-Marts can have such a "detention center" feel to them. I know that will come in handy when they all get converted to detention centers, but until then it can make for an unpleasant shopping experience.

Additional parking was my thought as well.

Also, don't call me Shirley.

We will go there because the Uptown parking and congestion is a pain.  We aren't really Wal-Martians but I like cheap jeans.

Dudes, just a hint. Pay a bit for more for your jeans. Might have some pay off. Just saying!  :)

I went to the Langford Wal-Mart this week, and my first experience with the new layout inside. I think it's a lot better. They also have changed up stock, their international food is now as good as the Uptown one.
