that's what i was thinking.  he has more name recognition in saanich too.  more cfax listenders there than victoria.

We don't need someone who wants to get into office looking for a fight. Nanaimo had that and look where it got them. Atwell started down that path but at least had the sense to stop listening to his promoters.

Lol. He was not advised, he was told by a transplanted Vancouverite (who ran Ida Chong’s remarkably poor campaign 4 years ago) that he didn’t believe McGuigan could beat Steven Hammond.

As I said that morning, welcome to Victoria boys. We do things differently here.

Id Chong's campaign manager in 2014 has lived in Victoria longer than I have (22 years)

...If it was Lisa vs Hammond one on one, she loses.  If it's Lisa vs Hammond and Gary and MG PLUS a ton of silly also-rans who carve up the 16K even further, it's very likely she wins.

Sadly, you are correct. I am not sure what all of these "anyone but Lisa Helps" types are thinking.  :whyme:

Well, if you’re talking about Hallsor, yes, but he wasn’t the one taking credit for Ida’s campaign-then, or now.

Mike G. reminds me of Ida Chong and will probably do similar numbers which will hurt Hammond.  It's too bad the electoral system for mayor doesn't let you list second, third, fourth choices

You are being generous. He got 863 votes in Saanich during the by-election which were the crotchety old white male crowd.

Shh.     [I know, I exaggerated my numbers in his favour, I'm trying not to be a Debbie Downer.]

Like the perfect illustration for the failure of our FPTP electoral system.

But prop rep doesnt work in a single seat race such as a Mayors seat. Is there another way that I am not seeing?

Whatever gymnastics the conservative party did to get scheer might work

So a tournament style bracket with 4 or 5 elections, depending on the number of candidates?

Some sort of ranked choice - where the bottom person is knocked off and their votes redistributed. Used most recently in that bastion of liberal thinking, the Conservative Party's leadership election.

Where did you find that information on "the Hammond team for encouraging people to print their own window signs, etc."  Is there a template we should be using/sharing with others?

Technically it's Stephen Andrew - but I think the rest of the New Council team should adopt - here is the info: https://www.stephenandrew.ca/

I don't think Lisa Helps would have a chance under such a system. Alas

How would it work differently than PR in any other race? Rank your preferences for mayor on the ballot and combine until someone receives 50% of the vote.

Unless it’s a fight to stop the nonsense at City Hall.

For the most part, City staff do what they are told to do and do a very good job. Most of the nonsense is the meddling by the Mayor and some members of council in City affairs which creates confusion and lack of direction.

Mike Geoghegan should not be running for Mayor of the City of Victoria.
