Tuned in to the live stream of the north park debate. My thoughts:

Knew their **** - Lore, alto, loveday, gardner, reeve, isitt, thorton joe, smith

Disappointing performance/knowledge - Collins, potts, alberts, king

Surprisingly charming/likable - Dubow, reichert, smith

Also was crazy to see Ben go full partisan on debate one attacking new council and calling them conservatives. I really hope not but this one might get ugly.

...Knew their **** - Lore, alto, loveday, gardner, reeve, isitt, thorton-joe, smith...

4 of them are incumbents, if they don't know their **** by now, they have no business seeking reelection.

As attacks go that is pretty lame. Still, I'd love to see someone give it back to him: Ben you're a communist.

Glad to see Ben has got the Team Helps talking points memorized. Completely untrue as far as I can tell, but Ben and Lisa are very much of the Trump School of politics, so no surpise.

Is there a video of the debate uploaded somewhere? Google not helping.

As an aside, it's funny that a guy who's probably mingled with literal communists would use "conservative" as a pejorative term.

Is there a video of the debate uploaded somewhere?

As noted above (post #3488) it's at

https://www.facebook.com/allstreamedup

There are 2 segments, pre- and post-break.

They had problems with microphones, so some of the answers can't be heard very well.

I randomly clicked on a point in the video and heard Gary Alberts say his hero was "...the people that "discovered" Victoria in the 1700s; "the Hudsons Bay explorers and things like that".

If that's representative of the rest of the broadcast I don't think I can stomach watching the full thing.

Edit: I've heard a couple more Alberts questions and he gets better.

Thought it was interesting that the mayor announced the bridge audit while attending an environmental conference in San Francisco. Was the conference trip paid for by us?

Yes. Nothing unusual though about a member of council attending a conference. Most organizations have ProD budgets, both private and public.

What I want to know is did the mayor ride her bike to San Francisco or did she take one of those planet killing airplane flights? Why attend in person at all? Shouldn't an environmental conference be strongly encouraging virtual attendance?

Ugh. You can read about the sustainability initiatives of the conference here.

I will also be genuinely curious to see what benefits citizens will get from the mayor attending the conference. E.g. will it be something that couldn't have been achieved with a few hours on the Internet.

...From arrival to departure at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), to getting around the city and attending the Summit, delegates will have many options to minimize their transportation footprint...

Of course before arrival and after departure from SFO, the conference doesn't give a **** about the transportation footprint of its attendees. Thank goodness San Francisco isn't attached to the rest of the planet's environment in any way.  :whyme:

...through a comprehensive educational campaign all delegates will learn how they can reduce their own environmental impact and witness sustainability strategies in action...

And the educational campaign could only work for delegates if they attend in person? I guess none of them know how to access the internet or even read - gasp - printed materials from their home locations.

I received some plastic bags while I was shopping outside of the CoV yesterday...they will be going straight into the garbage.

I always love your all-or-nothing approaches to the world. They are very realistic and reflective of the world we live in. Kudos.

Nope. I can only understand the sustainability initiatives of the conference if I were to attend in person.

Sounds like a good opportunity for you to learn about environmental sustainability. I'll start the GoFundMe.

Thank you. :) I love the hypocrisy of those who are dictating to me how I must live in order to save the planet even while they are themselves contributing to its demise.

Still doesnt answer Nparker's question about flying and virtual attendance.

Btw wtf does 'ugh' mean? Does it give your position added gravitas? Or is it simply meant to demean and belittle the person you are responding to?

You should seriously think about the impact of your choice of words. This is a forum for debate and while I appreciate your providing the link to show an attempt at responding to Nparker, it loses all credibility when you open with 'ugh'

That's very kind of you. I'd love a San Francisco getaway.

Edit: in order to avoid taking this thread further off-topic, this is my last response on this matter.
