It must be a lot windier on the straight than it is in the city.

all ferries mainland to vancouver island cancelled right now.
that's a bit crazy. there must be nearly 10,000+ people stuck on each side now.
the 7pm if they go are booked solid. still showing room on the 9pms.

Gabriola ferry canceled 2 sailings today. Have lived here for 13 years, never known it to be canceled for weather before.

10 minutes ago bcf pulled the plug on all the 7pm and 9pm sailings.
not sure if that means they will try to sail ships after 9pm.

oh yes they are done for the night. they will try again in the morning.
But I can't come home right now
Me and the boys are at the terminal
And we just can't get a ferry
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them calling
Oh Beth what can I do
That our house just ain't our home
I'm always somewhere else
And you're always there alone
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them calling
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do
And I hope you'll be alright
'Cause me and the boys will be in Tsawwassen all night

so if you add up all those sailings over three routes maybe there are 20000 stuck on this side and 20000 stuck over there.
yet somehow everyone will manage. a few will sleep at the terminal (in their cars or in the passenger lounge) but most will turn back and go stay another night at the friends in-laws etc. or at a hotel. we really are more resilient than we give ourselves credit for sometimes.
20000 people will be very late for work tomorrow or take an entire unscheduled day off. kids will miss school. surgeries will be cancelled. a few babies will be born and get lower mainland or island citizenship rather than their corresponding parents'.

That poor sucker heading for the booths...
completely oblivious right. he used his burner e-mail address to make the reservation to avoid spam.
looks like a few hundred will spend the night at the terminal. terrible night for it.

Roads are bare and wet until you get even just a little elevation.
