Something big is happening at the Tally-Ho housing project. There’s a big police presence there and police responding to whatever it is have switched to a separate radio channel.

I'm assuming this is the press release: https://vicpd.ca/node/2164

Victoria, BC-  Two persons are in custody after a drug investigation led to a response by the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT).

Patrol and Community Services Division officers attended a unit in a multi-unit residential building in the 3000-block of Douglas Street just after 11:00 a.m. this morning for a drug investigation.

Upon arrival, officers noted a noxious odour seeming to come from one of units. Two persons were believed to be inside. Concerned for the safety and well-being of those in the area, several units were evacuated. Additional resources, including the GVERT, as well as Victoria Fire and BC Ambulance Service were activated and attended.

The two persons inside exited the suite and were taken into custody without incident.

There were no injuries.

This file remains under investigation

Ah, that's more like it.  An arrest at some vague location, with next to no details about what happened.  Quality release.

🚔 Early morning B&E - burglars steal ATM machine 🚔

The West Shore RCMP are currently investigating a break and enter and theft that took place on February 9th at about 3:48 am. Two suspects are seen breaking into a convenience store located on Happy Valley Road in Langford. Video surveillance shows one of the suspects hauling out the ATM machine.

Police are requesting the public's help in identifying these two suspects.

Suspect #1: wearing a baseball cap, jacket and long pants.

Suspect #2: Wearing a hoodie with the hood up, winter jacket with possible fur collared hood, and long pants.

Similarly, On February 2nd just after 5:00 am, the West Shore RCMP received a report from a different convenience store on West Shore Parkway in Langford. The store employee reported an unknown male running into the store placing a tow wire around the ATM which was attached to a white F150 truck. The suspect then runs back to the truck and attempts to haul the ATM away using the tow rope. This attempt failed however when the tow wire snapped and the suspect took off empty handed. The corresponding file number for this incident is West Shore File 2019-1783.

Just to be clear who we're looking for, are long pants just pants, or are they longer?

long pants > pants > flood pants > capri pants > basketball shorts > shorts > short shorts > booty shorts

Savvy?

Not to give crooks helpful tips or anything but why don't robbers wear masks anymore? Is it a coolness thing? Like look cool even if it's impractical, like shooting a gun sideways?

I'm not saying they need an elaborate costume like a Marvel supervillain, or a complicated theme like every member of your gang has a different ex-President mask. Just your classic pantyhose over the face. I mean, just put a minimum of thought into it.

My girlfriend’s sister had that happen. Someone broke into the staff area of her work and stole her purse. We actually managed to track the man down to Our Place but he had already ditched the purse and another man had taken possession of it. Staff at Our Place we’re understanding of situation but admitted there was nothing they could do as there was no proof the man had taken the purse (security footage didn’t capture the moment of the theft).

I've had this happen too. They don't necessarily have to "break in", simply slip into the staff only area when no-one's looking. Takes only a few seconds to rifle through the purses etc. It's why a lot of businesses refuse public access to staff washrooms.

VicPD just put out the following tweet:

Officers responded to 567 calls for service over the long weekend. These included 13 assault calls, 42 check well-being calls, 11 impaired calls, 44 unwanted person calls. 580 calls over the same period last year.

so last year was negative 13 calls? or it’s double? or it’s down 13? anyhow last year was not a long weekend.

what if they get 12 “calls” for the same item?

Do we know if the assault calls have remained steady, or are they going up/down?

Man Sought On Warrants Related To Short-Term Rental Damage & Theft Investigations

Victoria, BC – Officers are searching for a man wanted on warrants who is also a person of interest into an investigation into the ransacking of a short-term rental property.

Brandon Wildman is described as a 38 year-old Caucasian man with a thin build, standing five feet, ten inches tall. Wildman is balding, but often shaves his head and sometimes has a trimmed moustache or beard. He may be using the alias of David Howden. Warrants have been used for Wildman’s arrest for alleged offences in which he was reported to have used “David Howden” as his alias. These warrants involve a series of investigations in which Wildman is allegedly responsible for theft and damage to short-term and roommate rental accommodations.

In addition to his warrants, Wildman is a person of interest in an investigation into damage to a short-term rental property in Victoria.

The property owner called police to report that she had rented her short-term rental to a man who, not only did not pay his rental fee, but had stolen many items from within and damaged the property. While the property owner often rents out her property using services which require verification, this time, a relative had posted the rental availability through a website that does not require verification. Despite her misgivings, the property owner agreed to rent the property to the man, despite not having met him, seen him in person, nor being able to independently verify his identity. Upon her return home, she discovered the thefts and the extensive damage.

The combined losses for this file are over $5000.

If you see Brandon Wildman, please call 911. If you have information about his whereabouts, please call (250) 995-7654, or Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Wow, I know of a similar case with a culprit who could be the same fellow.  VicPD refused to take a police report and deemed it a "civil matter" and that the RTO should be contacted.  One can't help but think that if that case was publicized as this one, it may never have happened to this woman.  And they want more god damned tax dollars.

Hold up, you possibly had the same individual cause damage to your suite, and the police turned you away?
