Once you've committed to the yellow shoulder bag, your choices to coordinate are pretty limited...

Housing the "homeless" is reducing policing costs how?

Man who orchestrated killing of mother, grandmother to get halfway-house leaves

Times Colonist - August 5, 2021

Darren Huenemann with his mother and grandmother

A man who got his Mount Douglas Secondary School classmates to kill his mother and grandmother in order to get a $4-million inheritance has been granted unescorted stays at a halfway house, after a similar request was rejected last fall.

Darren Huenemann, now known as Darren Gowen, “orchestrated” the 1990 murders of Sharon Huenemann and Doris Leatherbarrow in Leatherbarrow’s Tsawwassen home, and stayed home with his girlfriend on the night they were carried out, according to the Parole Board of Canada decision.

After a hearing in Quebec, where he is in a minimum-security correctional facility, the board granted Gowen one two-day unescorted temporary absence per month at a community residential facility or halfway house, beginning with two two-day absences. Halfway-house stays could increase to three days if things go well.

Victoria’s crime severity index went up. What does that mean?

The number reflects crime type, population size, and this year, possibly the effects of the pandemic

By Arrthy Thayaparan - August 8, 2021

Statistics Canada’s recent annual police-reported crime statistics showed an overall decrease in crime for Canada, but an unexpected high for Victoria.

Meanwhile, the crime severity index, or CSI, for Victoria was 168—a value much higher than Vancouver, at 105, and the provincial average of 95.

At first glance the numbers might indicate cause for worry regarding Victoria’s crime rate in 2020, but according to experts that might not exactly be the case.

CSI investigation

The annual CSI report measures the year-over-year change in seriousness of police-reported incidents that violated the Criminal Code, including traffic and drug violations.

The index, which was introduced around 10 years ago, came in as an alternative form of measuring crime rates. While crime rate relayed the number of crimes divided by a city’s population, the CSI weighs each crime according to sentencing surveys, giving a better impression of how much serious crime is occurring.

At first glance. Jesus Christ.

Because the millennials who told us to stop worrying about crime and that it was all in our head, and who somehow miscounted just two (1+1) Langford mayors over a 30 year span in a political hit piece against that muni, are now going to decipher crime stats for us, and enlighten us on what’s really going on.

HOW did he die in jail? And if jail was so positive for him how did he die? Because committing suicide or overdosing on drugs or being killed by another inmate means it’s not a positive place.

Likely a "community grant" in it for them for their newsworthy reporting.

Article:

Also the same article:

Over the pandemic, Canada’s national volume of crime decreased by 10% and the overall crime severity index was lower than previous years.

Public Alerted After Marine Theft Series

Why just a photo why don’t they give us some video? I’m assuming they have more than just a photo. I would think a video would make it easier. It’s 2021.

I wish I hadn't read the article.

But yes, how is any of what was mentioned in the article positive?

He was still in jail, she was hiding from her son at some point and for all we know, the letters (it doesn't state if she was receiving them or she saw them after his death) could've been a tactic to finish her off.

I'm still looking for a positive.

I'm rather old school in the belief that if you refuse to take your medications and you are committing violent offences, you should be committed.

Public Alerted After Marine Theft Series

Date: Thursday, August 5, 2021

Files: 21-30538, 21-28201, 21-28944, 21-30154, 21-30369, 21-31098, 21-31089

Victoria, BC – Investigators are warning the public after a series of marine thefts in late July and early August. We are also asking for your help to identify a suspect in one recent Victoria boat theft.

21-30538 Zodiac Stolen from Victoria, Recovered in Ladysmith

During the early morning hours of Thursday, July 29th, a suspect stole a 25-foot Zodiac boat from the Victoria International Marina, located at 1 Cooperage Place in Victoria. The boat was equipped with two new Yamaha 175 horsepower engines. The boat is valued at over $100,000.

Later that same day, at approximately 6 p.m., the boat was located near Slack Point in Ladysmith and recovered by the Ladysmith RCMP. The owner was reunited with their boat. However, the suspect remains outstanding.

The suspect is described as 35 to 40-year-old Caucasian man standing approximately five feet, six inches tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds. The suspect wore a red hooded sweater and a yellow shoulder bag. The suspect was last seen in Ladysmith riding a blue mountain bike, which he unloaded from the boat when he left the area. A photograph of the suspect is below.

Anyone else get the inkling this was less the transportation opportunity of a human being and more for whatever he might've been carrying?
