..Premier wants B.C. to bang pots and pans again...

OMG no!  Possibly one of the worst parts of the pandemic was the nightly 7:00 racket.

that’s the best our crack RCMP lab could do with the photo?

I know, it's crazy. I've said this before but a short two-second gif would make it a lot easier to identify.

What's going on at Pandora and Blanshard?

This:

Patrol officers were called to the 700-block of Pandora Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. to arrest a man who is a suspect in an assault investigation, according to a news release from the Victoria Police Department.

The man refused to be arrested and barricaded himself inside his suite, police said. Neighbours told CTV News Vancouver Island the man was barricaded inside an apartment in the Cool Aid Society's supportive housing building.

It was a bit more nefarious than may meet the eye:

Victoria, BC – A man is in custody after being arrested by members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) and Patrol officers following hours of negotiation. The man is a suspect in an investigation into an assault causing bodily harm and an assault by choking.

Patrol officers attended a multi-unit supportive housing facility in the 700-block of Pandora Avenue just before 1 p.m. today to arrest the man. They located him in a suite in the facility. He refused to give himself over to arrest and barricaded himself inside the suite. Officers began to negotiate with the man in efforts to resolve the incident peacefully. GVERT officers, including Crisis Negotiators, were deployed to the scene. Out of an abundance of caution, nearby residents were evacuated and Pandora Avenue closed between Douglas and Blanshard streets.

After several hours of unsuccessful negotiation, GVERT officers used irritant gas to assist in arresting the man. He was taken into custody without further incident and without injury. He remains in custody.

The investigation continues.

Pandora Avenue was reopened to traffic just before 5:30 p.m.

Witnesses, Information Sought After Suspicious Dumpster Fires.

The suspicious ICBC dumpster fire caused by the BC Liberal government experiment with socialism has diligently been extinguished.  The NDP has confirmed that their firefighting capabilities are so equitable that bags of money were found in the dumpster.

Minister of Fiscalalaities has confirmed that a portion of these funds will continue to offset auto insurance rates in the Province of British Columbia.  The remaining bags will be burned to offset citizens liabilities towards carbon agreements and the plastic bag ban.

Spokesperson to the Minister of Fiscalalaities has released a statement to clarify the program.   "Ya. Offsets. International obligations for carbon targets."

Man Arrested After Inner Harbour Assault

Date: Saturday, July 31, 2021 - Files: #21-30929

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man in Victoria’s Inner Harbour today after an unprovoked attack on a vendor and their display.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. today, Patrol officers were called to the intersection of Government and Belleville streets for a report of a man swinging a large metal pole at people and vendors’ displays. Several officers immediately responded and located the suspect on the Lower Causeway of the Inner Harbour. The suspect remained in possession of a metal pole. Officers provided voice commands, with a firearm and conductive energy weapon drawn, in order to protect the safety of the public and themselves. When the man did not acknowledge police commands, officers took physical control of the suspect to take him into custody without further incident.

Officers investigated and learned that the suspect had attacked a vendor’s display with the metal pole. The suspect then physically assaulted the vendor and left. The victim, a man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the assault.

Officers transported the man to cells where he was held in custody. The suspect, a 31-year-old man, faces recommended charges of assault with a weapon, mischief, and breach of a release order.

This file remains under investigation.

If you have information about this incident and have not spoken with investigators, please call our non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

A more-or-less "normal" person on release says, "I guess I shouldn't roll through this stop sign right now".

They sure as hell don't swing a pipe at random people.

I think we're tired of excuses. The justice system must get access to more resources for people like this who are clearly off their rocker. And I don't mean prison--we need to rehab them into citizens, not turn them into hardened cons.

you can’t force people to take medication for mental issues.

so it’s almost impossible to deal with this type of person.

^You are absolutely right and the bar for pulling a person off the street and holding them and medicating them against their will is high for a reason. I fear the solution has yet to be invented.

It isn't clear to me what we are doing today, if much of anything.  Adam Stirling is reporting that the violent crime index is up 45% in just one year.  This really goes against the narrative of homelessness as an issue can be fixed by giving away free homes.

Crime may be down from decades past but people aren't doing the crimes of the past as much, for example: safecracking, cash register robbery, drunken fistfights. A lot of today's crimes are completely irrational and pointless done by people with brains addled by powerful chemicals.

luckily we are expanding free access to those chemicals. and “de-stigmatizing” their usage.

I do wonder if the current approach will spawn class action lawsuits countless apologies in some future decade.  Of course, those promoting the approach today will not be the ones to apologize.

Of course it will.

Today’s approach to institutionalization of severely addicted and mentally unwell people in former hotels run by people with no specialties to change the lives of their clients will be looked back at no differently than how today we look back at Canada’s founders or historic figureheads that lived not in keeping with today’s social tolerances.

The enabling behaviour and provision of drugs etc by current elected officials will not stand up to scrutiny.  If I was a parent of someone who was suffering mental illness and who was being provided daily with mind altering substances at taxpayer expense to live in a warehouse-like environment, I would be livid.

Somebody so affected should start lawsuits against the government.

With more impaired drivers than officers can handle, Victoria police shut roadblock down early

AUGUST 1, 2021

tc-311550-web-e7sbg3wvgaibdes-jpeg.jpeg
Victoria police were overwhelmed by impaired drivers Saturday night at a roadblock near Yates and Wharf streets.

Victoria police shut down an impaired driving roadblock earlier than they wanted Sunday morning — they simply did not have enough personnel to handle the number of impaired drivers.

The roadblock near the corner of Yates and Wharf streets was shut down around 2 a.m. Sunday, about two hours after it was set up, because officers on scene were too busy to handle any more traffic..

“We got so bogged down in paperwork,” said Const. Stephen Pannekoek, who has been on the traffic detail for six years. “If we’d had a couple of more bodies, we could have kept going because it was hopping.”
