Even media stories calling any such thing to be little else than false impressions.

Didn't Theroux write a whole thing about feeling like there was increased crime didn't mean there was actually increased crime? I recall even CHEK covering that opinion.

Oh yes, there was that, too.

I look forward to the blame train on this one.

“In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality was tacitly denied by their philosophy.”

Busted....

looks like CoV knew who the dangerous individuals were, where the areas of the park were unsafe and hid everything from everyone....

https://www.iheartra...2020-1.15777545

The document also shows the public for the first time some elements of the secret process created by the City of Victoria to ban individuals from the parks system altogether. Photographs of banned individuals were kept in a secure location intended for approporate staff to view only. Staff were advised to immediately leave an area and report the situation to a supervisor if a banned individual was spotted in a park.

ERA1 was directly across Douglas Street from South Park Family School.

And I can help but believe that the main foundation for keeping everything quiet was the non-stop in-camera meetings.

They knowingly kept this from the public and people died.

This is a big, big deal.

I don’t know, it seems up there with discovering the Pope’s catholic.  Everyone living near the park knew it was dangerous and our neighbourhood was ransacked by thieves on a regular basis.  Anyone beliving that all was well should have been disabused of that fantasy after a short walk.

But as civic officials part of whose job is to oversee public safety this is a big deal as its willful ignorance and deception on their part. Citizens suffered due to their deliberate inaction. There is no defense for this

I agree because I’m almost certain I remember the mayor and/or Together Victoria councillors stating that there were no safety issues in BHP. Some of them even took part in some action to maintain the homeless in BHP! All that time they knew peoples lives were at risk. That’s unforgivable.

This is ridiculous! This council needs to resign. The increase in Crime based on the absolute stupidity of these ideologues!!!

Security Grants - Downtown Victoria Business Association

Security Grants

The DVBA is offering up to $500 on a 50% cost-share basis for businesses to purchase improved locks, protective film for windows, security cameras, or other measures to increase security. These grants will be available while funds last.

In partnership with DVBA member Tesseract 2.0, security cameras and installs will be available to any downtown business wanting to increase the security of their storefront. Tesseract 2.0 owner, Gary Beyer, is offering the cameras to businesses at cost and his team will perform installs. With the DVBA security grant, downtown businesses can purchase cameras and have them installed for only $270 plus tax.

Taxpayers pay for that, and to replace the broken windows due to this council’s completely misguided ideology, but at the same time we get no protection for ourselves: our safety or our property. This is getting really sickening… and the DVBA members who support this have to realize that they are doing so at our expense (money and safety). They should not ask for lipstick on a pig, they should demand that law and order be brought back. As long as they stay mum, I will refuse to support any if them. And let’s face it, it’s a lot more pleasant going to cook street village or Oak Bay avenue lately…

as I have stated in the past it’s time to reduce the number of “night crawlers” by having curfews at shelters and supportive housing units.

Jim V we have working breathing humans out there who believe COV is a hoax, the earth is flat and the crime rate hasn’t gone up in Victoria. Many people refuse to believe what they actually see with their own eyes on principle.

I know, and I don’t in any way excuse council for their lies.  But as you point out, ideology is a kind of wilful blindness.  And if people refuse to recognize reality when it bites them on the ankle I don’t suppose the the uncovering of some secret documents is going to change their minds either.  Just saying.

This council has been insisting 2+2 = 5 since day one. Led by a tragic figure who has the strength of her convictions and no ability to listen. They've socialized double speak in a way I used to think was parody.

Proven fact, now.

Thank goodness Mr. Andrew had this on his agenda from day one.

The in-camera acts of cowardice have been embarrassing for a city that, incredibly, describes itself as progressive.

Seems that prediction was a bit off, lol.

Getting calls from family in other provinces about it, almost a week later. Number one topic at a social event last Friday.

This may have significant liability for our lovely city, already embroiled in ?? lawsuits from its own community?

Gotta love ideologues...

At least we've learned our lesson, temporarily.

My favourite bit of Orwellian insanity from this council is:

"There's no crime."

"Yes, we've spent $500,000 on additional security"

"There's no increase in crime."

"Oh yes, we're trying to help the DVBA handle the issues down town"
"Crime is all in yer head little people"
