Spotify pulling down Neil Young's music collection | CTV News

Young, 76, said Spotify accounted for 60 per cent of the streaming of his music to listeners around the world. The removal is "a huge loss for my record company to absorb," he said.

Young: it’s either Rogan or me, make your choice
Spotify: nice knowing you, Neil

It’s interesting he has not had a top-10 song since 1995. And his only #1 in 1971. While it might be a huge loss for his record company, are they spending any money promoting those songs today?

Today the UK has no mask requirements, no capacity restrictions, nothing closed, all events on.  No vaccine passports.

Today in the USA there are very few restrictions, no closures.  Vaccine passports in only a few states.

Today in Canada 3/4 of the restaurants are closed, there are nearly no events or theatre, and most public places have mandatory masking and capacity limits, and vax passports.  The entire government and most businesses are working from home.

My kids birthday party got cancelled because renting a children's play facility and inviting 7 children to play there is against the law currently.  It's considered an 'Organized Ticketed Event' in their mind.  But no problem that today 20 of them will eat maskless in the same classroom (and the masks do nothing anyways). It's always the inconsistencies that irk me.

Find a way to resist. Work with others to have an “illegal” gathering.
Compliance will not end this pandemic. Only peaceful non compliance will get us our lives back.

Ontario is reporting 3,645 people in hospital with COVID on Thursday, with 599 in intensive care units.

This is down by 371 hospitalizations and a decrease of nine in ICUs since the previous day.

The province recently began distinguishing between those who were admitted to hospital directly because of COVID, and those who were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for the virus.

Of the 3,645 people in hospital with COVID-19, 56 per cent of them were admitted because of the virus, while 44 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19.

Of the 599 people in ICUs with the virus, around 82 per cent were admitted because of COVID, while around 18 per cent were admitted for other reasons.

_______________________

The government said 33,560 tests were processed in the previous 24 hours. There are 17,276 tests currently under investigation.

The test positivity rate stands at 14.1 per cent.

I think the Alberta positivity has been 30-45% lately.

Perhaps the dumbest move in all of modern music industry history.

Old man throws a hissy fit, ends up erasing 60% of his record company income. Good thing there are other major multi-national corporations this anti-establishment anti-corporate freedom fighter can turn to to keep the millions of dollars rolling in right Neil?

Young's next album: Broke. Maybe Rogan can have him on to promote it.

Ultimately this anti-establishment rocker became part of the establishment. And I don't think he even realized it, going into his ultimatum.

I'm not really a huge fan of Young's catalogue.

But is sure as hell irks me that Spotify has decided that profiting off the back of misinformation that can extend this pandemic is the best way forward. I certainly don't want to be part of that. I've had enough of this pandemic, thank you.

A little bit of a stretch don't you think? People can choose to listen to Rogan or not. People who choose to listen to Rogan can make their own decision on the content presented by his various guests.

Not trying to insult you but this viewpoint is very typical of our elitist, socialist class. They view the average Jane as being too stupid to do their own research and thus thinks she needs to be spoon fed information and prevented from hearing or seeing anything that might contradict the party message.

Personally I feel enriched by listening to opposing opinions.

I assure you I am not "elitist".

But I do not feel like financially supporting an organization that is pleased to profit off a narrative that, in my opinion, will prolong the pandemic. Spotify is a non-essential service. My life won't be significantly impacted by not subscribing. Other than I'll have a few more $ in my pocket and feel good about my choices.

How much of Rogan's podcast is focused on the vaccine? Like .02%?

I still love his music. I think he has lost his marbles on this and it's a shame. But I am not throwing out my collection. He is a genius. But also an idiot.... This is the human condition.

This has become childish.

I haven’t really liked Young since he left CCR. Although Centrefield was alright.

He has many great albums. I like his work with Crazy Horse the best. I even like his voice haha. I have learned to separate the art from the artist. Many are taken in by the cult of personality. This is why they use musicians as tools of advertising.

We all have had enough. The way out isn't censorship and compliance with a single solution offered by mega corporations with criminal records that have no responsibility or liability for their solution. I respect your bravery stepping up as an anti-choicer though.
