Prominent Comox Valley family collateral victims of Victoria bank robbery – Comox Valley Record

When RCMP officers in Saanich released the identity of the two suspects in the botched Victoria robbery Saturday, a Comox Valley family’s life was turned upside down.

Susan and Bob Auchterlonie were shocked to discover they shared the surname of the two deceased bank robbers. But that is all they share.

. But that is all they share.

They also shared an uncanny coincidence and connection about her workplace - and their target.

The department had planned to release the names of the injured members, but Chief Const. Dean Duthie said he reconsidered that decision after speaking with the officers and their families, and giving much thought to the potential impacts of publicly identifying them.

Maybe he should have talked to them before making the initial announcement?

The officers who remain in hospital each have eight years of experience with the department. Both worked with patrol and community engagement units as well as the GVERT.

The third SPD officer was released within the day, Duthie said.

The robbery suspects were killed in the shooting. They have since been identified as brothers Mathew and Isaac Auchterlonie, both 22.

Seems odd to me that Chief Del (or designate) wouldn't have been at the same conference to update the condition of the injured VicPD member...

The article is different than we were first told.

The artIcle says all VicPD officers were discharged same day, plus one Saanich officer (that underwent surgery but was still released same day). Only two Saanich officers remain in hospital.

Who you going to believe?

If only we had names to go with the injured, we could make a spreadsheet.

Correct info: 2 officers are SPD one of the SPD is in ICU. The 3rd officer is Vic PD and all 3 remain in hospital. I understand from friends the officer in ICU is still very touch and go. The vPD officer will be in hospital for quite a while. And don’t know about 2cnd SPD.

Semi-automatic firearms two Cowichan Valley brothers killed in a police shootout are seen using for target practice in now-deleted social media accounts are likely Chinese replicas that are old, heavy and common, says a B.C. firearms expert.

Rod Giltaca, CEO and executive director of the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, said the weapons were likely Norinco M-305Bs, a Chinese copy of the Springfield Armory M-14.

Buying, selling, transporting, importing or using the semi-automatic M-14 has been banned in Canada since May 2020, along with about 1,500 variants of military-grade assault weapons.

White, male, young and disgruntled: Saanich bank robbers latest in line of violent B.C. criminals

https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6509726

That’s right. Is the CBC hoping more BC criminals might be older, female, and non-white?

If they are hoping females might be more disgruntled. Good news, they are 4x more likely to attempt suicide. That’s the ultimate disgruntled. “This sucks, I’m outta here!”

While women lead the way in suicide attempts by a small margin, men die from suicide at a rate of 3 to 4 times higher.

Is that because women receive better health care and have their attempts prioritized?!

Maybe not as likely to seek help?

“..Reynhard Sinaga, a 36-year-old postgraduate student, had made this his home for more than seven years, living in a rented flat just a few moments' walk from Factory Nightclub.

Sinaga, originally from Indonesia, was a perpetual student. He already had four degrees and was studying for a doctorate. By night he was a serial sex offender.

He has been found guilty of drugging, raping and sexually assaulting 48 men, but police believe they are among at least 190 victims…”: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-50688975

They choose less lethal methods and are often saved.
