You forget that the raptors can't win without Kawhi Leonard.

That park petition is at around 8000 now, that's 2/3 the number of people suckered into reelecting the mayor 2 years ago.

From today's TC

...The city was installing new signs in Beacon Hill Park this morning. The crew was accompanied by two bylaw enforcement officers who told me they were there to protect the workers. What a sad indictment of the crisis in Beacon Hill when workers need a safety escort to do their job at 9.30 a.m. on a Thursday morning in a public park.

I sent it to my husband and daughter.

Here's one of the signs. This is along Heywood Ave. I actually did not feel safe going into the park on my own today, esp. since some scruffy character was scrabbling around in the long grass doing heaven knows what. Of course two tents are within sight of the sign.

You gotta love that the sign even includes a "no camping" symbol on it.

Very predictable. A bunch of intrusive new signs will further de-beautify the park, while also having no impact whatsoever on the camping.

The only people who would bother to read the signs are the people who already respect the park and who don't require any such reminders about minimizing their impacts.

To be fair, there is a good chance the signs will be torn down by BHP campers to enhance their shelters or feed their (sacred) fires.

Imagine you've been working in the parks department tending to Beacon Hill for 30 years. Come 2020, after decades of service to your community, a beloved green space that you've been entrusted to care for has become overrun by individuals who are indifferent towards the space as a shared resource, who threaten your health and wellbeing by discarding needles improperly, defecating indiscriminately within the green space, and in some cases, threatening your personal safety through violence or intimidation.

Imagine what that must feel like. Imagine spending your entire life adult life working for such a department, only to end your career in this way.

Ya boy!! Adam Sterling was sure bent out of shape over all this nonsense this morning on the Round Table show.

For a while there I thought he was going to blow a blood vessel.

Good thing his co-host Mike Whatshisname remained calm amongst the chaos.

I'm glad to see Adam getting fired up and fed up about all of this.  He's the voice of the people who have no voice.

My husband used to work for the city (not Parks!). He keeps in touch with a fellow who did work for parks and who still keeps in touch with some of the workers. They're disgusted.

Latest report from my daughter; there are now those bollard things at the entrance to Arbutus Drive. I guess emergency vehicles can drive over them? So much for this being a temporary closure. I'm really quite sad about this as I would always park along that road to go look at the alpine garden and sit on the nearby bench. What about parents who want to go to the playground? Very disheartening.

Has the mayor thrown up her arms and blamed someone else yet . Did I miss the performance.

Together Victoria, Ben and Lisa are all supported by the union.  I can just imagine the turmoil that is ongoing with them throwing their employees under the bus for ideology.  I'm guessing that's a backroom deal for not cutting back like every other city in BC.

^^^^^^ Here is the link that you asked for ....yesterday's Adam Sterling and Mike Whoever show.

Don't start unless you can commit to the full 48 minutes or so. The commercials have been removed.

We went into Beacon Hill Park today. Along with the ever-increasing number of tents we noticed that the putting green, well, it doesn't appear to have any holes any longer. So now no one can use it. Here you had a free activity using one's own equipment, and the city has to spoil it for everyone. Also the once beautiful herbaceous border near the new rose garden is half empty. Very disappointing. Just empty spaces with bark mulch.  I will be adding these tidbits to my weekly complaint letter to mayor and council.

Putting greens and golf in general are colonial/settler pastimes and should be discouraged by whatever means necessary.
