^ Stay away from Vancouver, then. "Stacked boxes" are very trendy right now.

No skin off my nose... I think the designs are visually interesting. I like 400 W. Georgia especially with those vertical gardens - it's great head start on Life After People.

It boggles the mind how Apple plans to situate a major office in Vancouver yet the Capital Region has zero Apple Stores. Um?

Why can't I get the thought of a "Transformer" out of my head looking at this one?

It would drive Rubik's cube aficionados nuts.

Unsure if someone else has mentioned this one, but GVHS has applied to rezone and redevelop the Esquimalt Lions Lodge (874 Fleming Street). 77 existing units would be replaced by 137 units in a six-storey building.

I guess there's something going on at 950 Worrall and 804 Latoria because the NIMBYs have their pitchforks out for this one:

Their 'solution' doesn't seem all that unreasonable:
The Solution
- We want the City, the developer and the landowners to work together to preserve part of this parcel as a forested park for the community. Instead of requesting other amenities, we want the City to ask the developer to leave large, contiguous portion of forested greenspace as a park.
- We want the City to require the developer to hold a ‘neighbourhood consultation process’ to help ensure the needs of our community are met
But I can't help but think that these concerned residents live in the fairly new developments around the area, effectively protesting the factors that they've benefited from allowing them to have their houses built.

There was a previous application in 2017 to Rezone to RS4 - 342 Lot Subdivision and 70 Townhomes that didn't materialize. Last i heard just over a year ago the developer intended to do similar.

I think that is pretty ironic coming from people who live in one of the most "drastically changed" areas of the entire CRD. I guess change isn't perceived to be 'drastic' as long as those people believe they derive some benefit to living there - regardless of the "changes" made to accommodate them in the first place may have negatively impacted other residents. Yep "I'm alright Jack - (but you're SOL....)"

Is a forested hilltop urban park an outrageous idea? Especially when open space is an endangered species in Langford?

Firstly, all of us are living where there once were trees so no one can say anything against cutting down trees for housing.
Secondly, the developers are sure to plant new trees amongst the development, so it's Even Stevens anyway. You'll probably not even be able to tell the difference between a forest and a subdivision.
Of this I was informed in the Vanishing Trees thread, so everyone can put down the pitchforks and pick up the chainsaws*.
* Kidding of course - you'd use a feller buncher on that.
