Tear down the statues and any symbols of colonial life they said.  It all belongs in a museum they said.

Yes, celebrating victimhood is more popular than ever right now.

We celebrate victimhood and being afraid. Reward safety over all else, even though life is anything but safe and nothing we do will ever take all dangers away. Many don’t seem to get that. It’s like they are playing whack-a-mole with tunnel vision.

If you are afraid then you will support the people who tell you they can make you feel safe. You will also sacrifice freedom and money to regain your safety.

Yes, celebrating victimhood is more popular than ever right now.

That is because everything that is wrong in your life is someone else's fault. You have no personal accountability or responsibility.

There is a petition, but has it received any media attention?

https://www.change.o...royal-bc-museum

It needs more signatures.  It is at 1,296.  Not sure if 1,500 is the number to start getting more attention or higher?

Are you assuming this wasn’t a political decision?

It's really quite surprising that the Province hasn't stepped in at this point, at least to put a "hold" on these plans until such time as a management group other than the current museum management can fully vet what is being proposed.

With the Minister responsible for the museum being one of the first to jump on the bandwagon declaring the 3rd floor had to be removed ASAP, it really only leaves Horgan and his advisors to step in and display a more level headed approach than the current "burn it all down, rip it all out" mindset being promoted by the current crop of fools running the museum.

what i don't understand is how they are not going into this with a fully designed new concept and laid out plans for the new look...  nothing should be touched until they know exactly how things will change, what will be saved, what will go, the complete layout drafted out on paper, maybe even artist renderings, along with already having new key features and structures already built ready to move in... to me this feels like deciding to build a multi story building getting all your workers lined up but you haven't even figured how big the building is going to be let alone have the plans to build it so it's structurally sound... it just screams putting the cart before the horse... there's no plan, there's no budget, there is no real goal, no idea what is being saved or what goes... how do they even know it will fit within the space limitations or have proper flow from one section to the next?

Virtue signaling doesn't require a plan. It's complete unto itself.

Just because they haven’t publicly announced the plan doesn’t mean there isn’t a plan.oh wait, here is the plan

...Decolonization of the museum’s galleries is important and long overdue...

This is an opinion, not a fact and should be treated as such.

That's not a plan FFS, that's a press release saying exactly nothing!

I think "bunch" is a bit of an overstatement!

From your link, here's one of the quotes portraying itself as an answer to the question "what will the new galleries look like":

"British Columbians will shape what the new galleries will look like."

In other words, they have no plan currently ... which was exactly the point being made above.

I don't know if I would quantify this as a plan but it certainly appears as though one group was consulted (ie FN in spring of 2021). The rest of us were supposed to be consultant in the fall of 2021 which doesn't appear to have happened (although there is still one week left!).

Long story short. In 3 years the collection and archives move out of downtown causing 2/3 of the site to be redundant. Put 2 and 2 together to figure out what comes next.

I think most of us know what comes next so why not just fess up? Think it will be less painful a message in 3 years?
