what can I say?...i just go by my adoring female fans that walk by and wave and holler at me...*shrugs* you can't argue with concrete results. Now perhaps the brickies are making me go a little delirious but not that badly, the country music keeps me sane :D

Looks like the Dave Wheaton GM dealership on Douglas at Topaz is being torn down. Anyone know what the rebuilding plans are?

The renovation will be massive. While it will not significantly change the floorplan of his showroom or administrative offices it will tear the existing building down to studs. "We're changing everything - the flooring, the walls, we're ripping off the roof, it's fairly extensive," he said.

It's being gutted right to the steel frame so I assume it's being rebuilt from the ground up.

That is great. I would like to barge away 2/3rds of the homes along Dallas Road. Hopefully something more in scale with the preeminence of the road will be built.

^^ Not bad. Would be happier if it were about 5 - 7 storeys taller with ground floor commercial but certainly better than a SFD.

Neighbours prepare to fight for old tree
By Danielle Pope - Monday Magazine

Published: April 04, 2012 9:00 AM

Construction project worries Dallas Road residents

One of the last original trees in a Dallas Road neighbourhood is stirring up controversy as an oncoming construction project could decide its fate.

The tree, planted at least 80 years ago along the Ogden Point strip of lower Dallas Road, is nestled on the boulevard of city property. Yet over the last eight decades, weather, health and construction projects have turned what used to be a tree-lined area into the sparser street residents and tourists know today. Now, community members are asking for the remaining arbor to be kept safe against the newest demolition project.

“It seems like everything has happened very quickly — one day people were living in the property beside me, then the next there was a notice alerting the neighbourhood the house was going to be torn down,” says Susan Enefer, who lives beside the construction project and was one of the first to draw attention to the fate of the tree. “I’m all for development, but we’ve seen these trees disappear in the past, and it’s such a lovely old thing — I just want to know it’s going to be OK.”

Don Mann Excavating Ltd, the construction company now in possession of the property, sent out notices to residents informing them of a public forum to be held on the site at 408 Dallas Road, set for April 4 at 5 p.m. The discussion will answer all questions about the upcoming project, which will see the old heritage building formerly known as “Marine Court” be replaced with a proposed townhouse development.

Some residents’ worst fears were confirmed last week when a public forum alerted neighbours that a beloved old elm tree on city property will be on the chopping block to make way for a new development project slated for Dallas Road.

Last week, Monday reported on the 80-year-old tree that has seen locals lace its trunk with yellow ribbons and a “Please Do Not Cut” sign in mind of the oncoming demolition project, which will replace a now-condemned heritage building with a new townhouse development — if developers have their way.

Over 20 residents attended the forum held by Don Mann Excavating Ltd., who now has possession of the property, with questions ranging from building and landscaping plans to the old tree’s status. A representative stated that the tree would have to be removed to make way for the driveway and landscaping plans, and said that its root system runs too deep and would be too damaged by the construction to survive. While some residents parroted a desire to see the tree removed due to its encroaching root system and its age, multiple neighbours were visibly upset by the announcement.

How do you like the tone of that reporting? Some neighbours (agreeing with the removal) "parroted", while the sensitive ones (not agreeing with removal) were "visibly upset".

I've heard (I believe it was here on VV) that a gym is going in there. There was lots of activity there last fall then nothing for months and now very busy again in the past 2 weeks.
