Agreed. There has to be a lot of profit when you just keep adding water to the same coffee grounds all day long.

You complain about their coffee but it's still better than anything from Starbucks.

Cafe 1891 at the Janion sure looks like it's either out of business or doing renos.  Cardboard all over the place, no sign in the window. Interior is in rather disarray...

Looks like Xing Fu Tang is getting ready to open at 608 Broughton (street level of Sovereign).

"Xing Fu Tang Canada is Taiwan's authentic stir fried brown sugar pearl milk brand ready to launch in Canada."

Sign permit was issued on Tuesday, any news on an opening date?

Xing Fu Tang's response to me when I asked 5 weeks ago was "aiming for Feb".

They're doing some changes to the interior. I believe they're getting a liquor license and creating a bar inside.

Unless it's just undergoing renovation, Mikase sushi / izakaya at Blanshard / Broughton (across from Royal McPherson) appears to be closed/defunct...

I can't understand why businesses -- if they are going through expansion or renovation -- can't simply hang a sign in the window to that effect, rather than give the impression that they're out of business?!?

I don't know why businesses undergoing renovation look like they've gone bankrupt while businesses that have gone bankrupt put up notices saying they are only temporarily closed.

It's like a rule here.

$499,000

any ideas?

A rare & exciting opportunity to acquire a successful winery and restaurant in beautiful Victoria BC. This business has been in operation for nearly 20 years and has become not only a local favorite but a destination for tourists and families across greater Victoria. The restaurant and bakery features over 100 indoor seats with a wine tasting and retail area. But its the 10 acre property that truly makes this a unique business offering.

The property is well positioned and easily accessible from both Victoria and the Peninsula and sits proudly on the corner of arguably the busiest intersection in the area. Over two acres of vineyards surround the restaurant and the 75 on site parking spots make it accessible to everyone including tour buses. The grain and eggs are all produced from the farm (& supplied to the business)and the ability to grow Barley and convert to a brewery application is possible. Huge upside and the ability to become a premier events space.

ok vv sleuths this one should not be too hard.

$499k for a restaurant bakery and 10 acres does not sound right but who knows.

Welcome to the Roost
The Passionate Farm Experience

Situated in the heart of North Saanich’s pastoral landscape, the focus is on local food and wine, and sustainability. More than just a bakery/cafe, The Roost roosts on 10 acres of farmland where we grow many items used to produce the food we proudly serve. The wheat grown and milled on-site is used to bake breads fresh daily. The blueberries, sheep, and a unique vineyard, all add to the authentic experience.

The Roost Farm Bakery opened in 2002 and has grown steadily ever since. Over the years we have added a garden market, cafe, winery, outdoor Bistro and event area.

Sarah’s dad, Hamish, still grows the wheat, berries, chickens/eggs and other produce used to make the items that we sell.

perhaps $499k is the farm/bakery business only.  you don't own any of the property.

Yeah, that makes sense. I think it's missing a zero if it includes that house and 10 acres land.

The listing is for a winery and restaurant, not the land. It's just not overly evident, but then this might be their angle to try and get more eyes on the listing. For all we know the current operation is also on leased land.
