A friend in Alberta has closed his restaurant due to the indoor dining ban. Business fell out from the bottom on the day of the changes.

Know it all.

I should have said on the day it was announced. His clientele disappeared very next day, to where he told all staff but one person to go home.

I think there is some ebb and flow associated with “back to school” and the end of summer, but one downtown restaurant manager told me that he has seen a steady flow of customers (and support) since the new requirements went in and he increased his Friday Night server staff to 3…

Places in Oak Bay seem to be doing great.

All good to hear. Restaurants have had a rough go already, they don’t need any more hard times.

Today, I plan to have my first sit-down dining experience since the "passports" came into effect. If it's too much of a hassle, it may be my final such experience for a while.

Which is why I've been saying for a while we haven't seen the business bloodbath yet. At the beginning of this, govt money poured out. But this pandemic is far from over. I'm just lucky I had a get out clause in my business lease.

No particular hold-up getting into the Uptown Brown's location. Lots of fairly young children there today (well under 12 years of age), so both unvaccinated and unmasked. Not sure what value there was to showing my "passport" and ID in terms of public health.

From the CBC website:

https://www.cbc.ca/n...rants-1.6181074

"They also said that those participating in 'order and not pick up' takeout will be investigated and charged with fraud. This involves ordering food over the phone and not showing up to pay and pick up the food."

What a petty mean thing to do, specially in a small community.

So what's the vibe on SSI Matt?

Totally chill, no issues that I've heard about at all from any restaurants here.  Few people a little annoyed about the whole passport thing but it's been unusually civil.  I feel like I'm waiting for a shoe to drop...

Glad to hear and you are not having to deal with such selfishness. But yeah I think there is that shoe that is still to drop.

All a restaurant has to do is have ordering online, you pay for it at time of ordering and then go pick it up.

But good food is never the same that way. Why I have never used a delivery service.

Yeah, but the problem we were trying to fix was people ordering food and then not showing up to get it and pay for it.

Yes I now see I was just being dense. You were stressing the paying while ordering, not paying on pick up.
