Opinion: I (finally) had a legendary meal in Victoria but the restaurant has shut down

Emotional final week for staff of a restaurant that’s been around since the 1970s

A) they have deep pockets behind them.
B) Agrius is half closed, or 2/3

There was a poster up in the back telling the crew about the job fair with the Top Table group. Now, *there* are some deep pockets.

Quesada Burrito has a coming soon sign in one of the Vancouver St units at 1008 Pandora, a couple doors down from the Panago.

They’ve had another location at Yates and Government since about 2015. Not sure if this is a second space, or a move. The Yates location always seems dead - I tried it once and wasn’t impressed.

Kind of a rubbish article. I’m sure Matt will agree:

Mountain town employers are having a hard time finding staff. Some are upping the ante

Be competitive or risk not having the staff you need, says Job Resource Centre director

Yeah that’s sort of a silly piece containing common sense info. The labour market is just that, a market. If you aren’t competitive against other employers then you’re left in the dust. This isn’t limited to the hospitality industry, I think most employers are in the same boat to some degree.

Consider my mind blown.

I had walked past the unassuming downtown Victoria restaurant Fishhook plenty of times because it’s close to my office, but hadn’t had a chance to check it out.

As the temperatures plummeted this week, I found myself cutting short my noon-hour walk and going into Fishhook to see if they had some food that would warm me up.

The restaurant industry is bracing for backlash from the public and increased costs as the City of Victoria drafts a new bylaw that aims to discourage the use of one-use cups and takeout containers, and require reusable dishware if meals and drinks are consumed on the premises.

The proposed bylaw is an effort by the city to cut down on the number of disposable items ending up in the landfill.

The city estimates about 220,000 single-use items are tossed out every day. City crews collect five million cups and containers every year at curbside and another nine million from city garbage cans.

More rules no one asked for and another instance of nanny knows best.

As somebody said, SOFMC gives out thousands of single-use cups at every event.  Will they be subject to the new rules?

It seems like only yesterday bring-your-own-reusable-mugs were banned at coffee places to protect the public health.

So if this passes, I wonder how many fast-food places will go exclusively to environmentally-unfriendly drive-through and scrap their sit-in areas.....

The Douglas and View McDonald’s does window service by night, or did? So they already have a system. Starbucks and Tim Hortons are going to be hit by this, because people go to those places to linger for a bit.

Know it all.

I don’t understand why the city can’t get back to basics. Increase vibrancy downtown, support small business, work with the province to decrease crime. It’s like their house is on fire and all they want to talk about is their stupid paper cups. Like get a damn clue

It’s like their house is on fire and all they want to do is pour gasoline on it.

Sometimes I'll get a milkshake at the Dairy Queen, sit and drink a bit of it, then leave and finish the rest in the car or walking, as I'm getting full. Will I have a glass glass to start with, then have to request a paper cup?

Dairy Queen still has glass drinkware?

So if you order take out/drive-thru, can they stop you from coming back in and eating your food on the premises?

Cora is reopening end of April, hiring now. I don’t know if it’s new management or not.

Quazar’s Arcade will be expanding to a 5700 sq ft licensed space on lower Yates this summer, details to follow I am sure! I wonder where this space is?
