Yates is closed from Blanshard to Broad as crews deal with the situation. Traffic downtown is pretty nasty, especially with the rain.

There are no bike lanes on Yates there by the way.
Dude, did you really not get the hilarity of my comment? People like VVers because they're sensitive, I know, but maybe you're getting too sensitive.

I never thought I'd see the day when somebody on this board didn't get a joke.

You obviously didn't get the memo...Directive 18.01-A no more making fun of bike lanes or cyclists, we are an inclusive group and are welcoming to minorities as per our Prime Ministers directive.

If you were trying to be funny then at best it was an unintentional copy of what dozens of people have been doing on social media for months, which again, has been the mass blaming of everything in Victoria on 1.1 km of bicycle lanes. Maybe you think of it as funny but given my desire to actually make our roads safe for people, including my kids, I’m just sick of the repetitive lameness. I assure you I’m not a total bore that an accountant tax policy analyst would lead you to believe and enjoy a wide variety of totally inappropriate jokes but this one got old last fall.
Somewhat related there’s a restaurant a pickleball court’s length away from this accident that is blaming bike lanes and apparently reduced parking on their financial woes and not their 350K pre start up costs which were well disscussed on VV, despite zero new bike lanes within blocks of said business and AFAIK not a single spot lost near it either. Sometimes mirrors are the best place to look when allocating blame.

If you change your mind, I’ve got quite the thighs from biking for decades.

Save it for the bike lanes thread, more of your type would be there. This is the car crash thread.

If you were trying to be funny...
I wasn't trying, I was accomplishing the task at a very high level. Upon first reading the hilarity is derived from the strained association between bike lanes and a negative circumstance that was obviously & self-evidently not related to bike lanes. But more complex comedic flavours emerge precisely because such strained associations are now familiar enough to seem hackneyed. It wasn't merely a joke about bike lanes. It was a joke about jokes about bike lanes.*
*jokes are often much funnier if you fully explain them in this manner
(Note: I'm assuming here that the incident wasn't somehow related to bike lanes.)

It was related to bike lanes. The guy driving the car was stressed out because there was no bike lane on the road and that caused the crash. If there was a protected bike lane on Yates it would have never happened.

Poor gal must have been distracted thinking about bike lanes.

I think this one was distraught over 24 hour bus lanes obviously.

Here are a few bollard installations - - tons more around the world.
Agree a few bollards, at least on busy downtown intersections would be wise - could also serve as a reminder to pedestrians about where might be an appropriate spot to wait for the walk symbol.
