We were staying overnight just outside of Salt Lake City and we were out for dinner I asked the server where I could get a bottle of wine. She came back a few minutes later and said "the closest place is in Provo, but it closes in half an hour."
I did without.

We did 2 nights in SLC. All beer was less than 3.5% alcohol content, breweries produce beer specifically for Utah with a lower alcohol content. We were refused a nightcap unless we ordered a meal.

I have been to several dry counties in Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee. Stopped for a night in some real podunk town in Arkansas once and couldn't even wash down my terrible Pizza Hut with a terrible Bud Light. I have never been so disappointed to not be able to have a Budweiser or Coors product...

Not quite true - draft beer has to be low but bottled beer can be whatever alcohol content you want.

60 years is pretty good for the government to act on public sentiment.

Mike K. and I were in a meeting yesterday where we were told that effective very soon, old liquor-primary licenses not being used will have a 2-year expiry date placed on them.

Right, on January 23rd the two year clock starts ticking.

So what we can expect over the next two years is a bit of a mad rush to open pubs. One license we know will end up at the Hudson. What about others?

Currently dormant are licenses from:
- Sopranos
- Hush
- Hugo's (?)
- The little club below Swans Brewpub (?)
- Plan B nightclub (Broad Street)
- Monty's
- Yuk Yuk's
- Steamers
- former club beside Monty's

Beer at the barbershop? Relaxed B.C. liquor laws come into effect Monday

Josh DehaasCTV News

January 22, 2017

British Columbia small business owners and their clients say they’re excited about relaxed liquor regulations coming into effect on Monday.

One of the biggest changes will allow any business to apply for a liquor licence.

John Yap, parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction, said he expects spas, bookstores and cooking schools will apply.

“We're actually pretty excited about it,” he said. “We think it’s a nice service to offer our clients while they're in the chair or while they're waiting -- to be able to have a beer, relax.”Jeff Campeau, from Vancouver’s Victory Barber and Brand, hopes to be the first B.C. barbershop to legally offer beer or spirits alongside haircuts.

Other changes coming into effect Monday include liquor permits for charity events, legalization of complimentary cocktails upon check-in at hotels and new rules intended to speed up liquor license application reviews.

Many of the changes were recommended as part of B.C.’s 2013 Liquor Policy Review, which consulted with the public, police, businesspeople and public health officials. ............

Hard to say. I believe in the CoV you'll be allowed to take a hit off a bong just about any place including churches, hospitals and funeral homes.

Is there vodka in the bongs?
