Odd that a Toronto paper released the info via their Vancouver subsidiary.

The Toronto Star has expanded it's national presence with new local reporters. They want to compete with the Globe & Mail and National Post.
Those bodies must been in terrible condition for them to take so long with identification. If they died in an accident it must have been the most bizarre accident you can imagine.

West Shore RCMP confirm the body of a missing View Royal woman has been recovered from Thetis Lake.
Early Tuesday, police reported the beach had been closed and was related to search for 48 year old Debra Evans-Hayes who had been missing since last Wednesday.
Police sent out a news release confirming Evans-Hayes was found dead and the investigation has been handed over to the BC Coroner's Service.

Bizarre and so few details. Not suspicious so just an accidental drowning? She was at the Lake alone?

Bizarre......
Isn't suicide always bizarre to those not afflicted with the illness?
Suicide usually doesn't manifest into very many details from the police ... it's usually the family of the deceased who chooses to use the incident as a platform to encourage others who may be so inclined to seek out help.
Terribly sad either way ... as it always is.

Have they said that's what this is?

No, but the narrative to date tries very hard to say as much, without actually saying as much.
As noted in my post, police in 2018 have begun a pattern of not making public note of suicides, saying only that there's "no threat to the public".
Cops seem to have reached a place where they leave it up to the family, who may or may not use the actual word "suicide" in their obituary (if they choose to mention anything at all).

And yet I was told in this very forum there was nothing suspicious about two men disappearing on a return sailing trip from Panama.

When have police in British Columbia ever announced that someone died by suicide? I can't remember this being a standard practice.

That article has several mistakes and innumerable assumptions. The ryan Daley whose criminal charges he shows is not the same ryan Daley. And these boys went via Hawaii.
Yep. His 'reports' usually have an element of truth to them though.

Also suspicious to me is why after 8 weeks together in a boat they are telling their family that they are going to hitchhike to
Jordan river to hang out. One guy had a wife and kids....surely you go back home
Not if you wanted MORE of how those 8 weeks went.

The vehicle belonging to a missing 82-year-old Oak Bay woman has been found, police said Monday.
According to Oak Bay police, a member of the public found Gladys Barman’s green Honda on a remote logging road behind Lake Cowichan on July 21.
A lot of unanswered questions here.
