Search crews find truck belonging to missing Errington woman

RCMP and search and rescue crews say they have found a truck belonging to missing Errington woman Sara Sherry, but Sherry herself remains missing.

The missing woman’s vehicle, a grey 2017 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, was located off a logging road about 20 kilometres south of the Highway 19 and Northwest Bay Logging Road intersection on Friday afternoon.

Searchers say the truck was found in a ditch about 15 metres off the logging road, though Sherry herself was nowhere to be found.

Mounties note that the backcountry area where Sherry’s vehicle was found is open to the public, and is a popular outdoor recreation spot.

Search for missing person Sara Sherry continues

Oceanside, Missing Person

2024-03-15

File # Oceanside RCMP 2024-1484

The search for 45-year-old missing person Sara Sherry will be continuing this weekend among the logging roads and deep back country located south of Highway 19 and Northwest Bay Logging Road in Nanoose Bay.

The search is being led and coordinated by Arrowsmith Search and Rescue who will be searching the area on Saturday and Sunday.

Sara Sherry’s truck was located on a logging road by searchers on February 23, however Sara was not located with or near the truck and bad weather since that time hampered continuing search efforts.

Unfortunately, we have received no further information as to Sara’s whereabouts since her truck was located, says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP. As the last known location for Sara would have been with her truck, searchers will be focusing their efforts within that area.

If you see Sara or have any information as to her whereabouts, please contact police immediately.

The US Coast Guard recovered a kayak on Sunday, late morning. This is not looking good. Unless these guys are stranded on a small island.

The kayak belonging to two men who went missing between Island View Beach and D’Arcy Island has been found in the San Juan Islands, but the men remain missing.

Daniel MacAlpine, 36, and Nicolas West, 26, left D’Arcy Island in a teal blue two-person fibreglass kayak at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, said RCMP.

San Juan County Sheriff Eric Peter said he was informed around 11:30 a.m. Sunday that the Canadian Coast Guard had located the kayak on the southwest corner of Henry Island but had yet to locate the missing kayakers.

Henry Island is located about five kilometres northeast of D’Arcy Island.

Hopefully they just illegally immigrated to the states. Saturday had some strong winds pick up seemingly out of nowhere-- I imagine it got pretty nasty out in that strait.

Those waters are notoriously dangerous. The swells can be six feet at the best of times. You'd be shocked at how big the swells can get between Port Angeles and Victoria, when the seas look super calm from shore.

Hopefully these guys are on a beach somewhere and without cell connectivity.
