Which is now nearly doubled!

Same price, $30M was in the form of contingencies and project overhead.

Nearly tripled. It’s now a $90 million project, and who knows how much of a contingency is in there.

Know it all.

What sort of a project allocates this much for contingencies?

The extra $20M was from a revised budget estimated that had been provided to city staff. Staff said that the budget wasn't going to increase though.

One that has politicians that don't want it going over budget!

Why not set the budget at $200 million and then tell taxpayers that you saved them more than $100 M when the project is done?

Interesting proposal coming to the COTW next week. Dubow and Alto want to introduce a motion that will prevent staff from considering any site that has existing green space. That would eliminate the CMS site that Mayor Helps was promoting last week. There are also other issues that they want staff to consider that I am sure staff are rolling their eyes at.

seems rather foolish since there are not a whole lot of large lots sitting out there with empty buildings on them ready to be torn down.. though i don't agree with putting the pool at central middle school... i'd rather see them consider a new elementary school there which is desperately needed for the downtown area

The current pool was built in a park. Did that work out okay? How come Victoria never ever EVER considers its own past? Every day it's back to the drawing board. Clean slate. No memory whatsoever.

My point here is that Victorians love to invent 21st-century principles that are supposed to be oh so crucial for defending and preserving what Victoria is and was.... but nobody seems to realize that if those same principles had been around back in the day, the Victoria that we're now trying to defend and preserve wouldn't even exist.

Was putting the pool in Central Park a good idea or a bad one?

If it was a good idea, then why the heck would we want to arbitrarily rule out the possibility of doing a similar good thing now?

If it was a bad idea, then remove the current pool, turn Central Park into a fantastic city park from one corner to the other, and build a new pool on a frickin' parking lot or other underdeveloped site.

I am surprised at the motion. Alto usually supports the Mayor so to come with an objection to her plan so quickly and present a motion while the Mayor is in Germany might just indicate that CMS was never really an option and Helps needs a way to back away from it.

Increase in the amount of green space in neighbourhoods

That's from the link above.  Sounds great.....as does creating a Victoria Urban Forest from recent posts.

Don't we have a climate emergency?  If you want cycling and walking to work, you need increased density. If you want that with more green space.....buildings get taller.  We don't want tall buildings?  So we want a climate emergency?

Someone let me know if my reasoning is flawed.

i don't think this council understands the trickle down effect of the decisions they make... heck i don't even think they understand their job and they are meant to represent ALL Victorians... not just the ones that think like them
