Besides newcouncil.ca, I've heard that there are a couple of other groups who are trying to pull together a slate of candidates (Mayor & Councillors) for the City of Victoria 2018 election. I'm quite interested in learning about any and all options in this regard - does anyone know who these groups are and how to get in contact?

Stephen Andrew keeps doing paid posts on FB complaining and grandstanding about Lisa. Sour grapes about coming 4th I'd guess but I'd also wager he's part of one of the groups.

What's everyone waiting for. The time to announce is now. All this caution just means people are not that interested.

Don't know about that. The ones that have announced have had their 30 minutes on CFAX and then nothing ever since. Why not wait until people are actually paying attention before you get your 30 minutes?
At least in Victoria, I think that people are waiting to see how the bridge, plastic bag ban, bikes lanes, Elsner, and some of the other hot button issues play out.

A mayor candidate that will announce this week will have public meet and greets every week. And they will start online ads soon too.

Because CFAX appearances are not the only way to get messages out.

You have my vote VHF :-)
Will wait and see how many people show up at the meet and greets 8 months before the election!

They will also be remembered/associated with every mention of every other candidate.
Know it all.

There's also the idea that it's hard to fundraise for a campaign until you've let it be known that you are running - further I get the sense that NewCouncil or whatever other organizations aiming to replace the current council would probably like to know who they should endorse to get that job done. Absent endorsement of a replacement, there's a bit of a chance of the "anti-council" crowd having their votes split by the field of new candidates.

I'm hearing it's 99% probable that Gary Beyer is running for mayor.

He announced earlier that he was running for council did he not?
No. He's never had any intention of running for council, I don't think.

At first I thought you meant Gary Hoyer(sp?)... our resident photo/video wizard.

I believe that he is Hubert Beyer's son. Hubert was a well known political writer for the TC and later freelanced at the leg.

You are right. I had heard that he was considering a run for Mayor and got him mixed up with someone else.

I think it would be timely to hear who we are talking about. This could be very interesting.
