Officers Arrest 2 Suspects After 2 Knife-Point Robberies

Date: Friday, May 28, 2021

Files: #21-20842, #21-20902

Victoria, BC – Officers have arrested two suspects for two separate knife-point robberies at convenience stores over a 15-hour period.

#21-20842

Patrol officers were called to a convenience store in the 2600-block of Douglas Street just before 4:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Staff called 911 and reported that a man entered the store, grabbed a drink, and then approached the counter, brandished a knife and demanded cigarettes. The clerk handed the man cigarettes and the man left.

The man’s description was broadcast over VicPD radio channels and he was spotted a short time later by two VicPD Special Municipal Constables near the intersection of King and Blanshard streets.

An Integrated Canine Service team, including PSD Havoc, responded. Given that the man had allegedly committed a robbery while armed with a knife, PSD Havoc was deployed to assist in the arrest. Upon seeing PSD Havoc, the man complied with officers’ direction and was taken into custody without incident.

No one was physically injured.

The man was searched and found to be in possession of a knife and cigarettes matching those stolen during the robbery.

The man was transported to VicPD cells. He faces recommended charges for robbery and for possession of a knife contrary to court orders.

He was held for morning court.

Patrol officers were called a convenience store in the 1300-block of Douglas Street just before 8:00 a.m. this morning after staff called 911 to report a man had robbed them at knife point.

Staff reported that a man had entered the store and had begun placing chocolate bars into the pockets of his hoodie and a bag. The man then left the store, leaving the bag behind. The staff retrieved the bag and placed it behind the counter. A few moments later, the man returned to the store and walked behind the counter. He displayed a knife and took the bag containing the stolen items. He then left the store.

High Powered Firearms Seized from Fortified Home

Date: May 28, 2021 - File: #21-2076

Assault rifles, handguns, prohibited weapons, and drugs were seized from a home in the 3300 block of Glasgow Avenue yesterday.

Back in January 2021, the Saanich Street Crime Unit initiated an investigation into a CRD wide drug trafficking operation based out of a residence in Saanich. The investigation culminated in the execution of a search warrant at the home on Glasgow Avenue on Thursday May 27th, 2021, which led to the arrest of three individuals.

During the search, officers located two SKS assault rifles, a modified shotgun, and a handgun. These firearms were located with ammunition and in easy-to-access locations at the entrance of the home. Additional imitation firearms, prohibited weapons and firearm parts were also located, thousands of dollars in cash, and controlled substances believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

One person was arrested at the residence, while two others were arrested at a mall in the 1600 block of Hillside Avenue in Victoria.

“Most concerning was the fact that this residence was fortified from the inside and had high-powered firearms with ammunition located just inside the entrance. This was a very dangerous situation that posed a potential risk to the police or any member of the public that would have approached this residence.”

This file involved significant police resources, including the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Unit and the Integrated Canine Section.

Two of the three remain in police custody and are facing multiple firearms and drug trafficking charges. The investigation remains open and additional charges will be forthcoming. Police continue to look into whether this operation is possibly related to organized gang groups operating in the lower mainland and Vancouver Island.

Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers

Sooke RCMP would like help in identifying the passengers in this vehicle. The driver was not involved in the incident at all.

The passengers allegedly assaulted a man at a gas pump in Sooke because they thought he was taking too long at the pump. The pair got out of their vehicle and shouted at the man, threatened to smash his wing mirrors and then got close up to him and spat in his face.

If you know who the pair are then you can tell us anonymously by calling 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip online by clicking the 'Contact Us' button.

you know.  somehow i doubt it unfolded as simply as this.  that there were two raging psychopaths in the car that just decided to assault a guy.

usually there are a few words spoken on both sides before it escalates.  doesn't excuse the behaviour but also i can't sit back and presume the victim is mr. innocent either.

also, "taking too long at the pump" is what some complete asshats do when they could easily move up/away as they complete their window washing and garbage patrol and other servicing well after they have finished pumping gas and there are others waiting.

in fact I can already see the brown car should be 5 or 6 feet forward if that space was empty when he arrived at the pumps.

We’re not dealing with a lot of intelligence here, I don’t think. Spitting at someone during a pandemic is doubly bad decision making.

I doubt anyone involved had any pressing business to get to, just chill, or go to a different gas station.

Also be glad it wasn't an electric vehicle charging up.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered; Two Arrested

Date: June 1, 2021 File: #21-12205

Saanich Police officers arrested two suspects after a vehicle that was stolen in Langford early this morning was located at Uptown Shopping Centre.

On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at 8:30 a.m. a witness observed a 4-door Buick sedan hit a concrete pillar at Uptown Shopping Centre and continued to drive on. The witness called police and provided a very detailed description of two suspects that had then walked away from the vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Langford just after 2:00 a.m. this morning.

Officers attended the area, including an officer with our bike section, who spotted both suspects walking on the Galloping Goose Trail. One was arrested on the trail while the other crossed the Trans Canada Highway directly into the path of a waiting patrol officer. The Integrated Canine Service assisted in locating evidence related to the crime.

Several charges are being recommended by police, including possession of stolen property and breach of release conditions for both suspects.

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers are seeking additional information and witnesses after a man reportedly stole a stuffed animal from a memorial honouring the 215 children found in unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Residential School.

Shortly before 7 p.m. last night, a woman reported that a large stuffed animal was stolen from a memorial she had set outside her home in the 200-block of Russell Street in Vic West. The stuffed animal is a large green alligator. The item has significant sentimental value to the woman as it was set out in memory of the 215 children found in unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Residential School in the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc community. A photograph of the animal is below.

The suspect is described as a 20 to 30-year-old Caucasian man standing five feet, eight inches tall, with a heavy build. The suspect wore a grey vest, green camouflage shorts, and a backpack. Officers are looking to identify the suspect and return the stuffed animal.

Officers took it upon themselves to purchase an additional stuffed animal and children’s toys to replace what was stolen from the memorial. However, officers would like additional information on the person who stole from the memorial.

This file remains under investigation.

They could have expanded it by explaining a bit more about what Elliott did at City Hall. I'm sure reporters at the TC knew him. Elliott had a variety of roles, ranging from running errands for the mayor's office to coordinating intra-governmental correspondence, sort of a high-ranking jack-of-all-trades.

they did not even state the nature of the offences.

and i think i have still yet to read if there was a a trial or this was a guilty plea.  but i might have missed that.  the defence said he "cooperated with police" after arrest but that's all i read.  it was clear that defence and crown had divergent views on length of sentence. judge went somewhere down the middle.
