Help Us Locate Young Athlete’s Stolen Bicycle, Theft Suspect

Date: Saturday, June 5th, 2021 - File: #21-21931

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers are asking for your help in locating a competitive athlete’s unique stolen bicycle and the man suspected of stealing it from a downtown hotel yesterday.

Staff from a downtown hotel, located in the 700-block of Douglas Street, called officers just before 9 p.m. last night to report that a theft of a bicycle from their locked storage area had occurred at 5:45 p.m. Friday.

The bicycle belongs to a young competitive downhill mountain bike athlete, who was staying at the hotel for the competition.

The bicycle is a 2017 black Devinci Spartan Carbon XL mountain bike, with black and charcoal lettering on the frame, custom handle bars, a red “Spank” rear rim, Rock-shox front suspension and “Schwalde” Big Barry tires. The bicycle is valued at approximately $10,000. Adding to the misfortune, the custom bicycle was stolen on the young athlete’s birthday. Two photos of the bicycle are below.

The suspect was caught on surveillance video. He is described as a Caucasian man, aged between 25 to 35-years old, standing five feet, eleven inches tall with a medium build. He has short brown hair with a receding hairline that is thinning on top. He was wearing a blue jacket, black pants and black shoes and was carrying a black bag at the time of the theft. A photograph of the suspect is below.

If you recognize the bicycle or the suspect please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1. If you see the suspect and bicycle please call 911.

The thief breaks into a locked bike storage area in a major hotel in broad daylight and they only have one blurry screen cap?

And what hotel is in the 700 block of Douglas? That's the Conference Centre and Crystal Garden. When is VicPD going to stop this ridiculous guessing game?

OK, I see. That property must take the record for the most tenuous connection to it's street address.

The Mayor keep referring to Amsterdam with her biking vision, but thing you find in any of the bike capitals in Europe is that everyone rides crappy bikes whenever they go downtown. That way when it is stolen you don't feel that put out.

overnight works crews.  garbage, sidewalk-cleaning, sprinklers (do we have those any more?), street-sweeping, line and curb painting.

The first sounds of the city waking up are usually City of Victoria crews dutifully doing their rounds so the downtown core is ready for workers by 6AM.

This could have ended up a real tragedy had the vehicle not come to rest where it did.

Quite likely the guy who was in trouble, or another municipal worker observing the scene, radioed for help. You’d have had a half dozen workers already on shift racing to the scene as police were being called.

From the T-C:

tc-259116-web-06092021-crash-jpg.jpg

“It was a challenging and dynamic situation for this City of Victoria employee,” MacIntyre said. “It was early morning and he was just trying to do his job and everyone deserves to be safe while doing their job.”

The city worker’s injuries are categorized as non-life threatening but they were “significant,” he said. “We’re hoping that the employee is OK.”

Once released from hospital, the suspect will remain in police custody, said police.

Police are considering charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and theft of a vehicle over $5,000.

Investigators are also trying to determine if the suspect was impaired. If so, police will consider charges of impaired operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm.

Collision analysts and investigators remain in the area.

Hmmm.

Two days ago the Mayor issued a PR condemning violence in London, so far today nothing condemning violence against her own employees.

Pandemic doesn’t stop scam artists targeting Save on Foods locations across Western Canada

2021-06-10 - File #2021-7643

On April 11, 2021, the Save on Foods on McCallum Road, Langford, BC, was the most recent known target of a pair who has been scamming their way across Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

The two women were first spotted in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in March of this year. The suspects use a distraction-based technique to allow them to pocket cash and depart before was theft is discovered. In some instances, they were observed leaving in a dark coloured minivan.

79957_saveon.jpg 79959_21-7643_1_a.png 79960_21-7643_2_.png

Since the first incident on March 19, 2021, officials at Save on Foods estimate the women have managed to pocket $7,386.00 in cash from various stores across the three provinces.

Someone knows who these women are, says Cst Meighan Massey, of the West Shore RCMP. They are traveling across Canada, in the middle of a pandemic, victimizing businesses as they go. We are asking for anyone with information regarding these crimes to please contact police.

If you or anyone you know has information regarding the identity of these women, please contact the West Shore RCMP at (250)474-2264 or if you wish to remain anonymous, contact CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
